Beverly Ann Kitchen, 64, of Bryan, passed away peacefully with family by her side on Tuesday, September 18, 2012, at the Hospice Brazos Valley Inpatient Facility in Bryan. The family will receive friends during a visitation from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, September 21, 2012, at Callaway-Jones Funeral Home in Bryan. Funeral Services celebrating her life will begin at 10 a.m., Saturday, September 22, 2012, at Sanctuary of Praise Church, with interment to follow at Rest-Ever Memorial Park in Bryan.
Beverly was born July 16, 1948, in Gulfport, Mississippi, to John and Alta Marie Smith. She enjoyed forty years of teaching, of which thirty-five of those years were in the Navasota School District. For the last eleven years she taught in High Point School. When she was younger Beverly spent twenty-five years in Girl Scouts. She was an active member of the Brazos Miracle Outreach, before most recently becoming active at Sanctuary of Praise in Bryan.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Murl and Richard Smith, and her parents.
Survivors include her loving husband, Tom Kitchen, of Bryan; sisters and brothers-in-law, Janice and Gary Brewington, of Colorado Springs, Co., Kathy and Jerry Black, of Frisco City, Alabama; and 15 nieces and nephews.
We love and miss you,Beverly. We’ll catch up to you in Paradise. We will all be there for Tom.
I had the honor of working with Beverly at the Primary School and also at High Point in Navasota. I will always remember as being so
sweet and thoughtful. On holidays she would always leave a cheerful message or piece of candy in all the mailboxes at school. She was a blessing.
My first job at NISD was working with Beverly in the gym. As we got to know each other, our discussions often centered around the Bible. As a matter of fact, she gave me my first parallel Bible which I later passed on to someone else who needed it for studying scripture. Our roles and campuses changed as the years went by but always when I saw Beverly she would have kind words and stories to share with me! Though she is not here with us now, we all know she is rejoicing in the presence of God whom she loved so dearly. She will be missed by the students and faculty at NISD.
I will always remember the open way Beverly shared the Lord with everyone. Not just in words, but in actions as well! I know she is with Him now, telling Him all about “her kids” in the schools she taught in! As I told one of my older children who Beverly taught in PE…there are some people you figure will always be here with us! Beverly was one of those. Prayers to Tom and the family, know that she is now in her mansion, waiting for all of us to join her. (John 14:2) God’s blessings to all of you!
Beverly will be missed. Was always a strong christian and friend. Was a great prayer partner.My prayers for her family is peace to them. She is safe in the arms of God.
We will all miss Mrs. Kitchen dearly! She was a wonderful teacher who always encouraged others. I had to privilege of knowing Mrs. Kitchen when I was a student as well as when I became a teacher. She was always a cheerful lady who would give you the shirt off of her back if you needed it more than she. I am so glad that she is not hurting any longer but am sad that she is not here with us. Her dedication to our school district, our kids, and our Relay for Life team will never be forgotten!
I am very sorry for your loss. Although I did not know Beverly, I know how painful it is to lose someone you love so dearly. My father passed away just a few weeks ago. I wanted to pass along a word of comfort from God’s Word. Psalms 56:8 says “You know how troubled I am; you have kept a record of my tears.” May you find comfort and hope in knowing God cares. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
Words. however kind,cannot mend your aching heart, but those who care and share your loss wish you comfort and peace of mind. Even though I didn’t know Beverly, It is my wish that you may find strength of loving family and in the warm embrace of caring friends and above all in the promises from the Bible. Yes the Bible promises a time when “death will be no more” [Revelation 21:4] Thereafter life will be almost too good to contemplate as we see from Psalm 37:11,29. My caring thoughts and sympathy.
I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I am honored to have known Beverly and will always remember and treasure our time together, our laughs, our talks and our friendship. Beverly will truly be missed and thoughts are with you during this time and pray you find comfort knowing everything will be alright , she is in a beautiful place where there is no pain, just love and beauty. I met Beverly when I worked for her in PE at the elementary school approx 18 years ago.
Beverly was such a sweetie….I am not sure where to start. She and Tom were inseparable. So much so, when Tom worked for me, teaching classes, Beverly asked if she could also, so she could spend time with her beloved husband and best friend, Tom. I said yes, and it was the best decision I ever made. She was always happy and would bring a piece of candy for everyone. She was a wonderful instructor and all the students loved her. She would help me write curriculum and always had great advice. She never met a stranger. She and Tom are two of the most Godly people I know. When ever I would have a problem, Tom and Beverly would pray with me. I remember going to Toms church when he was made a Pastor. That is a cherished memory. Beverly was so proud of her Tom. The two of them were so wise and always would answer, when I would ask how they were, They would both reply, Blessed!. They loved people and they loved our GOD. I imagine God wanted her by his side, now and forever. I will forever miss Beverly, but she will be beside God, telling him to let us all in. She is one of my best memories. We love you Beverly and Tom!
