Charles Otto

Charles Leo Otto, 84, of Bryan, Texas, passed from Earth into Heaven with his family by his side on Tuesday, February 27, 2018.

Charles was born November 9, 1933, in Groesbeck, Texas to Leo Emmet and Bonnie Beecher (Webb) Otto. He graduated from Groesbeck High School in 1951 and from Texas A&M University in 1955. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1955 to 1961. He worked for the City of College Station for 20 years from which he retired. Charles married his soulmate, the late Shellie Warner, on January 31, 1997 in Bryan.

In his retirement years, he spent his time enjoying the things he loved the most. He loved the simple life, outdoors, sunsets, riding horses, watching hummingbirds, reading novels, journaling his thoughts, and spending time with his family and friends, and his dog, Bigun.

Charles was a firm believer in Jesus and in prayer. He clung to the words which he learned as a child in Sunday School, “God is love; Love is God.”

Charles is survived by his daughter, Tanna Telligman, and her husband Tra of Dallas, Texas. He is preceded in his transition to Heaven by his parents, Leo and Beecher Otto, and his wife, Shellie (Warner) Otto.

Condolences

  1. “Mr. Otto” as we always knew him was a wonderful friend to my Mom/Dad Carl & Dorothy Dunn, I remember when mom told us that she was selling a small partial of land to a family. A little bitter sweet since our land has been in our family beginning when Texas was a Republic. Charles build a nice house and barn and made a home. After the passing of my parents my son moved into our homestead and he grew up knowing Charles and enjoyed visiting. They became very close over the past few years and now his children, “Otto” as they called him. They loved riding the 4-wheeler over to see him and I enjoyed seeing Mr. Otto when he come up to the house to have dinner and visit. He will be missed so by our family. Thank you God for bringing Mr. Charles Otto into our lives.

  2. The world has lost a truly wonderful man. I had the privilege, two years ago, of meeting Mr. Otto through my daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Andrew Kesler. I heard so many wonderful stories about him through Lisa and she insisted that we come down and meet him. We did and immediately knew why they had formed such a close bond with their neighbor and great friend. He was a very caring man. We will miss our talks, laughs and dinners with him. He will forever hold a very special place in our hearts, but especially Lisa’s. God has received a true angel!

  3. Sorry to hear about passing. Charles was close friend at time i was still living in Bryan. I also worked with charles before he retired. He was always availabe if i wanted to talk or needed help to do something. He will be missed by those who knew him.

  4. Heartfelt condolences on the death of your father, Tanna. We did not remain in touch after I moved, but I thought of him often with fondness. He was a good man and a great Dad. I know he will be sorely missed.

  5. I worked for Charles in the 90’s at the CS Water Department and even fed his animals a few times when he was out of town. Very nice man and always good to me. I wish now I would have stopped for a visit when I passed his house instead of thinking “maybe next time when I’m not so busy”
