Charles Roy Schultz, 76, of College Station, passed away Thursday morning, July 26, 2012. A Combination Memorial Service celebrating Charles and Frances’s lives is set for 11 a.m., Saturday, August 4, 2012, at Grace Bible Church Southwood location at 2901 Harvey Mitchell Parkway in College Station. Arrangements are in the care of Callaway-Jones Funeral Home and Crematory in Bryan.
Charles was born December 6, 1935, in Giddings, Texas, to Walter and Irma Schultz. He was a lifetime rancher in Lee County. Before becoming a rancher, Charles received a Bachelors Degree from Texas Lutheran College, a Masters Degree in Library Science from Ohio State, and a Doctorate in Oral History from Bowling Green University.
Charles worked as an Archivist for Texas A&M University. He served as head of the archives and held the Clemens Chair for many years. He served as President of the Brazos County Historical Society, and was a standing member of the Presidents Society Southwest Archivist. He was also a member of the Naval History Board in Annapolis, and he was an Admiral in the Texas Naval Reserve.
He was survived by his wife, Frances Elizabeth Schultz, who passed away only five days after him, on Tuesday, July 31, 2012.
Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, George and Elsa Schultz, of College Station, Paul and Sara Schultz, of Austin; brother and sister-in-law, Roger and Le’Rayne Schultz, of Austin; sister, Waldeen Hollingsworth, of Austin; and seven grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent in their memory to the Still Creek Boys Ranch at 6055 Hearne Rd., Bryan, TX 77808.

I met Charles once when he gave a presentation. When he mentioned that he was from Lee County, I couldn’t help but wonder if we were related. My Schultz is spelled Schulze and relatives are from Fedor. In case you know of a Schultz link to a Schulze link, I’d like to know. My grandfather and his siblings were abandoned by their father and shortly after their mother passed. The children were split up after her passing and the Schulzes adopted my grandfather Daniel Boes. I am a librarian at Dallas County Community College District. When I saw Charles in Oklahoma City, I could also tell he had that German Lee County look about him.
I am sorry to hear that he has passed away. God Bless you all. The Lord hears our every prayer.
Charles was a good friend and trusted archives colleague. We’ll miss his in the archival profession, including here in the Midwest where he was a long-time MAC member. He is also remembered for his prowess on the softball field!

Charles was a tremendous help with publications and programs that required help from the A&M Archives. He was always ready with a smile and quick attention to whatever was needed. His knowledge proved very useful on many occasions. He showed great attention to detail and provided suggestions on numerous projects. His encouragement and help will be greatly missed.
