Darby Lee Meier, 71, of Bryan, passed away Saturday May 10, 2014 at St. Joseph Regional Health Center in Bryan. Visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday evening, May 13, 2014 at Central Baptist Church. Funeral services are set for 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 14, also at Central Baptist Church with interment at Steep Hollow Cemetery. Services are in the care of Callaway-Jones Funeral Home and Crematory in Bryan.
Darby was born July 14,1942 in Burton, Texas, to Herman and Ella Meier. He was a veteran of the United States Army. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and his favorite hobby was fishing. Darby was the owner of the Villa Maria Barber Shop, as he was a barber for 46 years. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and a friend to many.
Survivors include his loving wife Pamela Meier of Bryan; daughter Kimberly Weiser and husband Doug of Bryan; son, Kevin Meier and wife Betty of Bryan; sisters, Guydene Moon and husband Ronnie of Amarillo, and Lois Coneley of Carlos; and four grandchildren, Cody Meier, Courtney Meier, Keaton Weiser, and Sam Weiser.

Our prayers for comfort during your time of sadness and many thoughts as you celebrate Mr. Darby’s life. I remember his awesome quips and stories and the barber shop. He gave my son, Zack (USMC) his first haircut and many after. Little did we know then, that he would be getting a weekly “high and tight” in the corps.

For many years (around 15) I would go to the barber shop with my husband and son on Saturday morning and wait for them to get their hair cut. Not just any barber would do, it had to be Darby! I remember his stories about his horses, the cowboys and how he always handed out bubble gum. He was a precious man. God Bless you and your family.

We are so sad to learn of your loss. Darby was a joy to our family and a part of weekly discussions for decades. He and Red shared weekly wagers on the Cowboys and other games every fall. Nothing pleased Dad more than to have Darby down a few “hair tonic” bets and I know Darby felt the same when he won. Thank you Pam for all you and Darby have meant to us through the years. We pray that God will comfort and strengthen you in the days ahead.

There were so many good stories, laughs and arguments that we shared about our families, friends and, of course, sports from Little League baseball to professional football.
