Donald Eugene Ray

Donald Eugene Ray, Sr., 71, of Bryan, passed away at his residence Saturday, December 31, 2011. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, January 6, 2012, at Callaway-Jones Funeral Home in Bryan. Interment will follow at Cross Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 – 8 p.m. Thursday, January 5, 2012, at the funeral home.

Donald was born in Somerville, Texas on March 12, 1940. He retired from the Navy after 20 years of service. Donald was a parachute rigger and provided ejection seat safety as well as other safety controls. He also was a tractor mechanic for International Harvester in Bryan. Later, Donald worked for navy contractors including Dyn Corp., Lockheed Martin and Boeing. He always had a home in Bryan and had moved back from Kingsville about a year ago. Donald was a perfectionist. He loved working, fishing, animals and carpentry. He also had a great love of his country, family, friends, pets and Rush Limbaugh.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Claude Ray and Cora Smith Ray.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce Gentry Ray, whom he had married in 1960. Other survivors include his son Donald “Donny” Ray, Jr., of Bryan, Texas; daughters, Diana Ray Cover and Tina Louise Ray, both of Corpus Christi, Texas; brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert M. and Gilda Ray, of Caldwell, Texas, Jim and Donna Merchant, of Corpus Christi, Texas, Darrel “Butch” and Teresa Ray, of Caldwell, Texas, and Bill and Kriss Ray, of Caldwell, Texas; sisters and brother-in-law, Betty and Dennis Squire, of Conroe, Texas and Linda Huddleston, of Crosby, Texas; 6 grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter (soon to be here), and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Brazos Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 392, Bryan, TX 77806.

    Uncle Donald was a wonderful uncle, husband father. I have such wonderful memories of him. He will be missed very much. I know that there are no words to take away the hurt of loss. Time and holding tight to precious memories.
    I know he is waching over each of you and I know you will see him again one day. I imagine he is playing 42 dominoes with grandma and my mom right now.
