Eldon Berdahl

Eldon Royce “Skippy” Berdahl
November 7, 1934 – March 8, 2013

Eldon “Skip” Berdahl, 78, passed away Friday, March 8, 2013, from complications due to surgery. His family will receive friends during a visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at Callaway-Jones Funeral Home in Bryan. A Memorial Service will be held at a future date at the First Christian Church. Services are in the care of Callaway-Jones Funeral Home and Crematory in Bryan, Texas.

Eldon was born Nov. 7,1934, in Fargo, North Dakota, to Elmer and Violet Berdahl. Skip joined the Air Force at a very young age and did two tours of duty in England, which he loved. He came to Texas A&M to visit his brother Duane and never left. He worked in the A&M Department of Purchasing Services for 29 years before retiring in 1992. He also worked a ticket gate for his beloved Texas Aggies for 29 years. He always claimed to bleed Maroon, and said Texas A&M saved him. He was particularly happy watching the Aggies and Johnny Football march their way to victory this past season.

He was also very proud to be listed along with his brothers on the Brazos Valley
Veterans Memorial walls, which he visited often with his nieces. He treasured his close friends as mentioned above; his group that waited in line every morning at the A&M Rec Center, where he walked 2 miles almost every day; and his weekly retirees lunch group. His most unselfish act was taking care of his dear brother
Duane for 17 years after Duane suffered strokes and a head injury. He called Duane “my little man” and made sure he was well taken care of: first, in his home; and then in the Bremond Nursing Home, where Skip visited him every day. He also talked to his treasured sister weekly, and told her he was going camping rather than have her worry about his surgery.

He made friends everywhere he went, and his enthusiasm for life and happiness was both exuberant and contagious. He will be missed by many as he was loved by many.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, RoJean Rae Berdahl; brothers, Delroy J. and Duane A. Berdahl; and dear cousin/brother, Gordon G. Thompson.

Eldon was the Loving brother of Devonne Kay (Bunny) Stryker; beloved uncle of Robin Berdahl Trellis (Dan), Jaci (Berdahl) Cuddy (Rich Kraft), andRoJean (Berdahl) Head; cherished great uncle to Claire and Scott Trellis, Kelly and Jeremy Lowry, and Alexandra and Cassandra Head. Treasured friend to many, including his Texas A&M University lunch retirees, the Texas A&M Rec Center early morning group, and his special and loved friends – Lisa Ford; Paul Barzak; Harry, Ed, and Serene Wharton; Robert and Sharyl Pressley; Larry and Vicki Green; and many, many other dear friends.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Brazos Valley Veterans Memorial.

Condolences

  1. Thinking of the Berdahl Family during this difficult time. I worked with Berdahl for many years. I will miss his smile and his love of life.

  2. I met Mr. Berdahl shortly after I started working for A&M in 1980. He was always pleasant and welcoming whenever I would see him at Purchasing and Stores. Mr. Berdahl was one of my favorite persons I’ve had the pleasure to know and work around at the university. I know he will be sorely missed by all his family and friends.
