Gene Siegert

Gene Siegert, “The Welder”, passed away on Monday, October 25, 2010 at St. Joseph Regional Hospital at the age of 76. Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 28, 2010 at Callaway-Jones Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 29, 2010 at Callaway-Jones Funeral Home Chapel with burial following at Rest-Ever Memorial Park in Bryan.

Gene was born in Smetana on February 3, 1934 to Ben and Berta Siegert. He graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School in 1952. He enlisted in the Army National Guard and a member of Northview Baptist Church for many years.

As a very small boy, he started blacksmithing and welding in his Dad’s shop in Mumford. He owned Gene Siegert Blacksmith and Welding Shop and worked along with his Dad and later his son. His grandson said that PaPa could make anything with iron and loved doing it. He continued welding until the day he died.

Gene enjoyed going out to “his country” and tending to the cows. He loved hunting and fishing with the boys.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Cecil Siegert; and his sister, Patsy Inmon.

He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 50 years, Barbara Siegert; one son, Gerald Siegert; one grandson, Brendan Siegert. He is also survived by one brother and sister-in-law, Herman and Florence Siegert; one sister-in-law, Dot Siegert Henderson; brother-in-law, Ollie Inmon; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Al and Sandra Zweifel and many nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

    & Gene grew up together. Gene’s Dad, Ben & my mom’s Dad, Bob, were brothers. My
    Mom will be unable to attend the services due to the fact that she is ill. Please
