Guy Joseph Denoux

Guy Joseph Denoux
November 30, 1949 – December 7, 2007

Guy J. Denoux passed away Friday afternoon ending a bravely fought battle against leukemia (CMML). Born and raised in Metairie, Louisiana, he was most proud of being an Eagle Scout and the lessons in Cajun cooking from of his Mamere. He earned his bachelors in Biology at the Univ. of New Orleans and his masters in Zoology and Physiology at LSU in Baton Rouge. Guy came to Texas A-M in 1976 to pursue his PhD in Oceanography.
Making College Station his home, he and Jane Morgan (’76) were married in December 1980. He completed his degree in 1984 and was employed with Dept. of Oceanography and the Geochemical Environmental Research Group (GERG). He just recently received a pin for 30 years of service at TAMU. Much of his work included travel and time spent at sea. He was most fond of his trips to Antarctica. In 2005, he received the Congressional Service Medal for his contribution to the research in Antarctica.
He was active in his children’s lives. A teacher at heart, he shared his experiences with science classes at Rock Prairie and Cypress Grove. He coached softball for CS Parks – Rec and Bryan North Little League, and also served on the boards of College Station Little League and Aggieland Soccer Club. Two things that gave him the most joy were keeping the scorebook for his daughter’s traveling softball teams, and sharing his love and knowledge of soccer with goalkeeper training sessions and his son’s soccer teams. He was a generous contributor to local charities, and a participant of Relay for Life with GERG. Above all, Guy was a loyal friend and a loving father and husband.
He is survived by wife, Jane, and children, Elise Marie and Henry Elhanon, his father, Henry A. Denoux, and sister, Clarice Denoux. He was preceded in death by mother, Mary O’Donnell Denoux and his namesake and great uncle, Fr. Guy J. Lemieux, S.J.
A celebration of his life will be held on Thursday, December 13, 2007 at 11 am at the 7-F Lodge (16611 Royder Road, Wellborn, TX 77881). In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Guy J. Denoux to CSISD Education Foundation (1812 Welsh, CS, TX 77840) and the Lymphoma Leukemia Society.
