Hubert Clarence Faust

Retired Caldwell business man, Hubert C. Faust, 97, died on Friday, March 11, 2011, at the St. Joseph Manor in Caldwell. Arrangements are in the care of Callaway-Jones Funeral Home and Crematory. Hubert will be buried beside his wife at the Kramer Cemetery in Burleson County. There will be a graveside memorial at the Kramer Cemetery at 10 a.m., Saturday, March 19, 2011.

He was born to K.E. Faust and Lillian Herrmann Faust on September 28, 1913 at Porters Chapel Community in Burleson County. He was once a member of the National Guard under Mr. Murray Broaddus and an employee of the City of Caldwell.

Hubert married Elva Buffington on March 6, 1936. Their daughter, Linda Lee was born in Caldwell. In 1943, the family moved to Beaumont where they worked for Snider Radio Service. In 1946, he and Elva earned their private airplane licenses, buying a Piper Cub which they often flew to Caldwell.

When they moved back to Caldwell, in the fifty’s, they opened Faust Radio & TV Repair Shop. Hubert literally grew along with the electronic age, starting with him building crystal radios and ending with him installing dish satellites.

Hubert enjoyed owning, rebuilding and flying several Piper Cubs, a Taylorcraft and his Cessna 150. He was the airport manager of the Caldwell Municipal Airport for many years. Hubert’s hobbies were gardening, woodworking, gathering and raising orchids, repairing old clocks and photography.

In 1972, Gordon Baxter wrote an article for FLYING Magazine about Hubert and the Caldwell Airport. This started Gordon’s series, Life in Little Airports which ran for several years.

Hubert was preceded in death by his wife of over 50 years, Elva, by their infant son, his own parents, his siblings; Lillian Dunaway, Adeline Clark and B.R. Faust, an infant brother, Karl and two sons-in-law, Chester Price and H. Glenn McAdams.

Survivors include his daughter, Linda and husband, Dave Houck; grandchildren, Cathy Clements and husband, Wayne, Dawn Hickman, Jennifer Stelzig and husband Jim, Molly Boyd and husband Shannon, and Robert Price; great grandchildren, Steven Clements and wife Krystal, Jessica Clements, Scott, Andrew and Jodie Hickman, Will and Wyatt Stelzig, Gavin, Sawyer and Bella Boyd, Micaela and Mackenzie Price; great-great grandson, Shane and Jack Clements.

Hubert is also survived by childhood friend, Willie Boehme, special friends, Alvin and Honey Kutach, Susie Gerdes, Del Miller, Marvin Beseda, Glen Williams and many others. His friends, customers and other relatives will remember his as an honest, hardworking man. We will remember him as Papo or Pop.

The family wishes to thank the staff and nurses; Jennifer and Leela at the Manor and his caregivers at Traditions Hospice for all they did for him and us. May God bless each one of you.
