Jim Trotter

James (“Jimmy”) Donald Trotter was born in Waco, Texas on November 29, 1950, the son of the late Edward and Marjorie Trotter.  He left to be with his Heavenly Father on July 14, 2017 surrounded by his loving family.

Jimmy graduated from Mexia High School in 1968.  Upon graduation from high school, he was granted an appointment to the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado where he studied to pursue a career as a pilot.  After sustaining a knee injury that precluded his pilot career, he transferred to Sam Houston State University and graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration in 1974.

He met his bride, Martha Elizabeth Jackson, while attending Sam Houston.  They were married in 1971 and moved to Conroe, Texas where Jimmy worked as a CPA for Hereford Lynch and Company.  They had their two children, David Clayton and Laci Elizabeth in Conroe, Texas.

In 1983, Jimmy established his own Tax Accounting practice and moved his family to Bryan, Texas.  Among numerous accomplishments, he was a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants, Board Member of Camp Creek Water Company, Member of Bryan Rotary Club and Head of the Finance Committee at First United Methodist Church.  He was also a member of First United Methodist Church and the Wesley Class Sunday School for over 30 years.

Jimmy dearly valued his family and was a big sports enthusiast.  Some of his best times were spent watching David and Laci play high school sports, and traveling all across America for tournaments and camps.  He loved his lake house at Camp Creek where he enjoyed spending many weekends working on projects and being on the water.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Marjorie Trotter; his sister, Marjorie Anne and her husband, Don; and his brother, Kenneth Edward.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Martha Jackson Trotter; son, David Clayton Trotter and his wife, Karen; daughter, Laci Trotter King and her husband, Kenneth; his sister, Judy Carolyn Fife and her husband, Bubba; his sister-in-law, Sandra Trotter; grandson, James Hayes Trotter; granddaughter, Reece Elizabeth Trotter; and many nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be on Monday, July 17 at Callaway-Jones Funeral Center in Bryan from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. There will be a private family graveside followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 18 at First United Methodist Church in Bryan.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Bryan Rotary Club at PO Box 2760 Bryan TX 77805, First United Methodist Church at 506 E 28th St. Bryan TX 77803, Hospice Brazos Valley at 502 W 26th St Bryan TX 77803, or the charity of your choice.

  7. Laci, Martha and David, my family wrote me as soon as they heard the news. Our family always appreciated Jim and how much he cared for everyone he knew. It’s been a long time since we were together in that house on Hummingbird but being there is a feeling I’ll never forget. You are a special family and my heart is with you at this difficult time. Many blessings.

  8. The Helping Heroes Burn Foundation, Inc., Board of Directors extends its sincere condolences upon the passing of our friend, Jim Trotter. Jim graciously donated his time and talent to help us establish this outstanding 501 c 3 organization that assists firefighters burned in the line of duty. He will always maintain a place of gratitude in our hearts and the hearts of the firefighters we have been able to help. We wish you God’s peace and comfort at this difficult time. If we can be of service to the family, please let us know.

  9. Sweet Martha,
What a precious couple you all were. He was always at your side at all the “Rock” parties and I always thought it was so sweet when you would smile and say ” gotta run to me Jim for a lunch date. God will comfort you when no one else can. Love you. Ps. 16:8.

  10. Martha and Family,

I am so sorry for your loss. It has been so long since I’ve seen you. I just wanted to offer my sympathy and prayers at this time. I lost my husband Nov. of 2012. Life will be ok, just hang in there. Take care of yourself. Jo

  11. Please accept the sincere condolences and sympathy from the Brazos Valley Museum of Natural History Board of Trustees, Staff, and Volunteers. Jim was a great supporter of our community, served on our board, and aided us for many years with our financial audits. I know him personally from Bryan Rotary where he was always a wonderful presence and help. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. All our best wishes.

  12. Jim took care of my elderly mother’s taxes for many years and just recently took care of mine. We always appreciated his kindness and help with any questions we had. My mother, Myrna Isgitt, graduated to Heaven last year- she would have wanted you to know what a blessing he was to her. I will miss having him as a trusted CPA. My prayers are with your family-

  13. Jim and Martha were cornerstones for support for our athletes in Bryan. You set the standard for being supportive of all the kids and coaches regardless of the circumstances. David and Laci were certainly two of our most talented athletes, but they were absolutely two of the finest people I ever had the privilege to work with. That is the legacy we hope and pray for. May God grant you his comfort and peace.

  14. In his quiet way Jim was essential to the Brazos Valley Museum preparing audits, tax reports and generally counseling us on our finances. The Museum was one of his early clients in B-CS. After my retirement as Director, I was so happy with his gentle service that I retained him for my personal tax reports. Jim also was one of the most valuable members of our Bryan Rotary Club. Over the years, I learned to count him as a true friend. Although I never knew his children, David and Laci, nor his wife Martha, they must be experiencing a terrible loss. Please receive my condolences from afar. Even in Minnesota the loss of Jim Trotter is deeply felt.
