Karen Marie Smith

On October 1, 2010, in the presence of her family, Karen Marie Kornegay Smith, at the Christus Dubuis Hospital in Bryan, rose up, spread her wings and flew to join her Lord and Saviour. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m., Sunday, October 3, 2010, at Callaway-Jones Funeral Home in Bryan. Funeral Services are set for 11 a.m., Monday, October 4, at the Brazos Valley Cowboy Church. Interment will be at 11 a.m., Tuesday, October 5, at Restland Cemetery in Gatesville.

Karen was born November 21, 1955, in Gorman, Texas, Bill and Marie Kornegay. She has lived in this area for about 28 years and she worked at St. Joseph Hospital in Bryan.

She was a faithful member of the Brazos Valley Cowboy Church and nothing meant more to her than her faith and her family. She enjoyed her horses, camping, collecting stuff and going to garage sales with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed sharing life stories with everyone she met. She always told a good story and was a gentle woman. One of her favorite quotes was “a penny for your thoughts and a quarter for your calls.” She never asked for much but gave her heart to the world. She will be missed greatly by her family and everyone’s life she touched.

Survivors include her husband, David Smith, of Bryan; sons and daughters-in-law, Shawn and Tammy Edwards, of Bryan, Aaron Edwards, of Henderson, Mark and April Edwards, of College Station, Jacob Smith, of Bryan, Lee and Melissa Smith, of Bryan; daughters, Christy Edwards, of Bryan, Tanya Terry, of Spring; father, Bill Kornegay and wife Carral, of Gatesville; sister, Marlene Kornegay, of Gatesville; step-brother, Tommy Morgan, of Irvin; grandchildren, Leandra Gilbert, Christopher James Lee Gilbert Jr., Tyra Gill, Abel Edwards, Noah Edwards, Bradyn Edwards, Cassitti Edwards, Alyssa Dawn Terry, Madilyn Dawn Terry, Amelia Elmendorf, and Harrison Wayne Smith.

In Karen’s memory, donations may be sent to the Lymphoma Society at PO Box 4072, Pittsfield, MA 01202.

  3. Karen and I were best of friends in Jr.High, and High school. We lost touch as I married then she. Both to young to know what we were doing. I have tried to find her many times to no avail. I have missed her friendship dearly and deeply sadden to have finally find her only to find out that I lost her for ever. My heart goes out to all of her family and friends. I never forgot nor will I ever forget such wonderful a friend as Karen.
