Marjorie Darlene (Reed) Mayes
November 16, 1927 – January 21, 2016

Marjorie Darlene (Reed) Mayes, age 88, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother left this world on January 21, 2016. She was born on November 16, 1927 in Plattville, IL to Harvey Reed and Dessie Ellen (Turnbull) Reed. A memorial service will be held at 11:00a.m., Saturday, February 6, 2016 at Christ United Methodist Church in College Station, Texas.

Marge married James Robert Mayes on June 23, 1949 and the couple made their home in Yorkville, IL. The union produced two children and many adventures as the family also lived in Iran in the late 1950s and traveled throughout the world. Marge was a career cosmetologist for over 50 years and owned her own business in Yorkville for many years. Her children benefited from her solid moral values and strong work ethic. She retired in 1995 and moved to College Station, TX in 1997 to be close to family.

Left to cherish her memory are son Robin James Mayes and fiancée, Pamela McCleary (Shady Shores, TX) and daughter Susan Mayes Lancaster with husband David (College Station, TX). Grandchildren: Polly Pinneaux with husband Daniel, son Avery Camper and daughter Alex Pinneaux (Flower Mound, TX), Katie Minder (Arlington, VA), Emily Schuler with husband Kyle (Midland, TX) and Ellie Ferris (Houston, TX). Marge is also survived by her brother Franklin Harvey Reed (Plattville, IL) and his son Brian Reed (Aurora, IL).

Marge was a 50-year member of Eastern Star Chapter 295 (Yorkville, IL) and Christ United Methodist Church in College Station, TX, where she sang in the sanctuary choir. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Hospice Brazos Valley and Christ United Methodist Church. Marge’s family wishes to thank the staff of the Carriage Inn in Bryan, TX for the care and attention provided to Marge in the latter years of her life and also gratefully acknowledges the staff of Hospice Brazos Valley and especially Marti Bledsoe for their assistance and support over the past year.
