Ninon Barrett Scheiber, 89, of Bryan, Texas died peacefully in her sleep Friday, October 28, 2011 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. A Memorial Service is set for 10 a.m. Saturday, November 5 at Callaway-Jones Funeral Home in Bryan. Inurnment will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 6 at Hardin Chapel Cemetery, in Hardin, Texas.
Ninon was born February 10, 1922 in Groveton. She was raised in Kountze and attended Lamar University in Beaumont. Ninon worked at Texas A&M University, Sun Oil Company and Exxon-Mobil Oil Company as an executive secretary, and for Charles Fisher, of Liberty, as a legal secretary. In 1954, she married Leopold Franz Scheiber in Kountze. They later retired and moved to Liberty. After the deaths of her mother & husband, she moved to Bryan where she was active in Literacy Volunteers of America & the local AARP Chapter.
She was preceded in death by her husband Leopold F. Scheiber of St. Paul, MN; parents, William Preston & Eva Maywald Barrett; sister, Martha Roberta “Bobs” Barrett Moore and her husband William Fowler Moore, Sr.; brothers, William Preston Barrett, Jr. and Richard Bates Barrett.
Survivors include her nephew, Donald Preston Moore of San Marcos; nieces, Melaney Moore Dodson of Bryan, Charlotte Marie Moore of Springfield, MO, Dianne Barrett Martinez of Baytown, Sandra Barrett Combs of Pipe Creek, Renee Barrett Nowlin of Coldspring, Myric Barrett Lejeune of Eunice, LA; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
The family will be eternally grateful to her caretakers Edna Garrett, DiDi Klapkowski, Johnnie Ludd and Ruth Madison. Without these angels of mercy, and the love and special care they gave “our Auntie”, niece Melaney, the primary caretaker, would never have survived the last ten years.
