Robert Unterberger

Robert Ruppe Unterberger, 94 of College Station, Texas, passed peacefully in his home on Sunday, February 14, 2016. As a professor and researcher at Texas A&M beginning in 1968, he developed unique forms of sonar and radar, inspired thousands of students and garnered a number of international patents. A prostate cancer survivor for over 20 years, Bob worked for years as a volunteer co-leader of the local American Cancer Society Prostate Support Group and served on the Governor’s Advisory Board on Prostate Cancer. An avid outdoorsman, he embraced fishing, camping, kayaking, swimming, hiking, boating and scuba diving.

Bob loved his children and grandchildren, Aggie football, James Bond, margaritas, the British Virgin Islands, backrubs, coffee, Star Trek, breakfast as Blue Baker and dachshunds, though not necessarily in that order. Above all else, he adored his late wife of 67 years, Dr. Betty Miller Unterberger, the first full female professor at Texas A&M.

He is preceded in death by his eldest son Glen Unterberger and his wife Betty, and survived by his daughter, Rev. Dr. Gail Unterberger and her husband Randall Adams; his son, Gregg Unterberger, M.Ed., LPC and his fiancé Jane Murray, LMT; two grandchildren and their spouses, Ben Adams and his wife Nicole, Maureen Dominguez and her husband Jose; and four great-grandchildren, Luca Adams, Carina Adams, Gabriel Dominguez and Victor Dominguez. And a dachshund named Barney.

A special thank you to Hospice Brazos Valley for their loving care and support. A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 11:00 AM on February 20, 2016 at All Faiths Chapel, on the campus of Texas A & M University.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to any of the following causes: The Texas A&M Foundation for the Betty Miller Unterberger Memorial Fund, 401 George Bush Drive, College Station, Texas, 77840, Hospice Brazos Valley, World Wildlife Fund, the American Cancer Society or to Dr. Jon Munday at The Institute for Personal Religion and Miracles Magazine by calling (845)-496-9089.
