Roy Oliver

Roy Oliver
May 5, 1951 – November 30, 2017

My devoted dad, a loving husband to my mom, a loyal friend to all, a dedicated employee and co-worker, a real family man, Roy Oliver, 66, of Bryan, died on Thursday, November 30, 2017 in Temple. We will honor this incredible life during a Life Tribute Service at 12 noon Saturday, December 9, 2017 at Callaway-Jones Funeral and Cremation Centers in Bryan, Texas. We will begin at 11am with visitation at the funeral center. Inurnment for both Roy and Sandra will be at 11am on Sunday December 10th in Bryan City Cemetery. Cremation Life Tribute Services are in the care of Callaway-Jones Funeral and Cremation Centers Bryan-College Station.

Roy Oliver was born in Houston County. A quiet human throughout his life; he was born to John and Bessie Lamber Oliver on May 5, 1951. Roy’s life, as was his character, was a simple life. He didn’t need the latest in fashions or the most recent in trends. Roy always gave you respect and honor. He never complained. Roy was one of eleven children in his family; he is the twin brother to Joy, his sister. His family was of simple beginnings and hard work. He married the love his life Sandra Grady and they made their home for five wonderful children. Roy was employed with Wolf Cemetery Services starting in 1991 for many years. Roy knew the importance of being a cemetery professional. He also provided the most excellent care in services to numerous families in his career. He was dedicated to the cemetery business regardless of how beautiful a day it may have been or even in the worst of weather conditions. Roy recently retired from Metzer Cemetery Services, just before Sandra’s death in June 2017.

His wife Sandra Oliver; their children Jimmy, Dene, Carol, and Glenda; his brothers, Thomas, Sammy, and Marvin; and his parents all precede Roy in death.

Although, his daughter Lisa Dowdall is the last immediate survivor of Roy, he also leaves to cherish his legacy his brothers, Donald, Ronald and wife Samantha, Johnny and wife Sally; his sisters, Evon and husband Hubert Hall, Patricia and husband Edward May, his beloved twin sister, Joy and husband Raul Lumbreraz, and Nelda Benton; his brother in-law, Tom and wife Sandra Grady; his numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and his precious fur baby Joy.

Roy’s family, especially Lisa Dowdall, would like to express their deepest gratitude to Kim May (Roy’s niece) for all the love and support she had given to uncle Roy unconditionally.

Condolences

  1. My deepest sympathies to the family during this time. I had the please of getting to know Jimmy, Roy and Sandra over the last several years, they loved each other so much. It was a pleasure knowing them. Roy was such a great provider and worker. Sandra loved him so. They are together again. Continued prayers to your family during this time.

  2. I did not know Roy or his family, but after reading his touching obituary which I assume Lisa wrote, I wish I had.

I have learned over the years that, when it’s all said and done, people like Roy rise to the top of my admiration scale, time and time again. They represent what is truly important.

I have two daughters. I can only hope that one day they feel the same way about me as Lisa feels about Roy. There is nothing in our time here on Earth that matters more than that.
