Steven Burkhalter

Steven (Bo) Burkhalter of Bryan, Texas passed away on, August 22, 2017.  Bo was the epitome of a TRUE Christian man; a lifetime member of the Central Church of Christ and Austin Colony Church of Christ.  He was a member of the Cedar Creek Masonic Lodge #300 of Kurten Texas, where he was the past Master in 1978. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt, fish, ride/train mules and horses and raise cattle. Any second left in the day was spent teaching his grandkids the cowboy way of life and spoiling them rotten. Bo was a welder/pipe fitter by trade and spent the remainder of his life doing selfless work for the community and donating his skills to charity, friends and family.

Bo is survived by his wife of 50 years Mary Beth Burkhalter, three daughters and their spouses Stephanie Ford (L.A. ‘Trey’); Courtney Freeman (Mike) and Ashley Brunson (Matt).  His beloved grandchildren Jaci Brown, Foster Brunson, Jaxsen Brown, Caden Freeman, Faith Freeman, Matthew Burkhalter (Burk) Brunson and Landri Ford.  Brother Searcy Bond, Sisters Deedie Burkhalter Slaydon, Carolyn Burkhalter Ashmore, and Ann Bond Nichols.  Sisters in law Paula Burkhalter and Marianna Bond along with numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Olga Hudetts Burkhalter, father Louis Burkhalter, stepmother Georgia Bond Burkhalter, brother Morris Gene Burkhalter, George Bond, and Tom Bond.  In laws JC and Mary Templeton.

The family extends special thanks to Marcel Lechin, M.D. for all his perseverance, dedication and love to dad’s care and research.  The amazingly compassionate nursing staff at Hospice Brazos Valley. Frank’s Country Store coffee crew and lifelong friends for your help and support this past year.

Family and friends are invited to a time of visitation from 5 until 7 pm Thursday, August 24, at Callaway-Jones Funeral Center in Bryan. Funeral services are set for 10 am Friday, August 25, at Callaway-Jones Funeral Center with interment following at Steepholllow Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Hospice Brazos Valley, Austin Colony Church of Christ or a charity of your choice.

Condolences

  1. To Ashley and Matt and the Burkhalter Family,
Blessings are the memories you’ll have here until we see our loved one again in Heaven forever. I pray for you all and wish I could say so in person. Please know I would do anything, all you need to do is ask.

  2. I first met Steven at Travis Elementary School; he was one of the sweetest boys I knew. In fourth grade his Mom was very ill; our teacher, Mrs. Cloud, was allowed to take the class to Steven’s home to celebrate his birthday with his Mom. After graduation from SFA high school I lost touch with most of my classmates, but there are a few who impacted my life with beautiful memories and Steven was one. I pray God’s blessings and comfort be with his family.

    • That is such an awesome story. My dad never talked much about the time period when his mother was sick. This makes my heart so happy.

  3. I am so sorry Mary Beth. God bless you. I have known you since I was 17 years old and it was always so great to see you. May God bless you. Love, Marianne Ruffino

  4. A good, good man. I have not seen Steven in years but he is one of those people that both enriches and strengthens the people he comes to know. Steadfastness is the word that comes to mind when I think of Steven- evidenced by his lifelong devotion to wife, family, and Christ. Our loss- heaven’s gain.

  5. I knew Bo through his brother Morris and always liked his kindness and friendship. It’s always sad to see someone who is truly one of the “nice” guys leave their family and friends on earth. But, one day, they will all be together and continue to enjoy the special friendships.

  6. Mary Beth,
So very sorry to hear about Steven. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family! May God place His peace on you!

  10. Steve was a really neat man. I enjoyed kidding him as he build my barn. He did such a great job on that and as he did on everything else. He was a wonderful compliment to You Mary Beth and you girls. Love and prayers for all of you.

  11. Mary Beth, so sorry for your loss. It really meant a lot to me when Stephen , Claude and Bennett came to Bill’s service 4 years ago. They all had some great times together, It’s a shame how friends lose touch over the years, but we thought of you and Stephen often. You and your family will be in my prayers.

  12. I cannot be with you today, but please know I am with you in spirit. Mary Beth , you, the girls and families remain in my prayers and I pray that you find peace and comfort knowing he was loved by so many.
