Bobby Lee Wright


Bobby Lee Wright, of Bryan, died at College Station Medical Center on Monday, March 11, 2019, surrounded by family. Born August 27, 1935 in Bryan, the son of Joseph Stuart and Lois Vaceile Wright, Bobby graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School, and served 21 years in the U.S. Air Force. After retiring, he and his wife, Christene, settled with their family in College Station, where Bobby worked for the Biochemistry and Biophysics Department at Texas A&M University for 21 more years.

He is survived by his wife, Christene Wright (née McCoy); daughter, Sondra Wright Walker and her husband, Robert Lee Walker; son, the Rev. Stuart Wayne Wright and his husband, Melvin F. Wright; grandson, Zachary Gavin Tullos and his wife, Jessica Tullos; brothers, Jimmy and Donny Wright; sister, Janice Howk; sisters-in-law, Alice Wegman and Mattie Lou Bartlett; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding Bobby in death were his parents, and brothers Billy and Joe Wright.

A charter member of Peace Lutheran Church in College Station, Bobby’s funeral will be at Peace at 2:00pm on Friday, March 15, led by the Revs. Travis Meier and Craig Borchardt. Family and friends are invited to a time of visitation at Callaway-Jones Funeral Center in Bryan, 5:00 – 7:00pm, Thursday, March 14.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice Brazos Valley, 502 W. 26th, Bryan, TX  77803; or Peace Lutheran Church, 2201 Rio Grande Blvd, College Station TX 77845.

  3. Christene, we are sorry to hear of Bobby’s passing. I enjoyed my time working in the Biochemistry department accounting office while he was working in the storeroom. Dan and I also cherish the times we got to visit with you both.

    My deepest sympathies for you and all your family with Bobby’s passing. It was truly an honor to share the eucharist with him and then catch up on all the golf, Aggie and Cowboy scores afterwards. It was always so great to visit and hear about Zach and Sondra and how our kids keep moving onwards.

    Please know you are in our prayers. He was a wonderful guy and is missed already.

  8. Randy and I loved Bobby. Jessica, our daughter, grew to love him as her own grandfather and we appreciate so much who he was and who he is in our hearts.
