Bruce Campbell Bowman, 41, died Sunday, June 22, 2008 at St. Joseph Regional Health Center. He died peacefully, surrounded by members of his loving family.following brief battle with lung cancer. Plans for memorial services are pending and will be announced at a later date.

Bruce was born November 18, 1966 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. His early childhood was spent in Pittsburgh and San Tome, Venezuela. Bruce moved to Houston with his family in 1976. He graduated from Memorial High School in 1985, where he played clarinet in the marching band. Bruce later attended Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos and resided in Houston for many years until moving to Marlin, several years ago.

Bruce is survived by his mother, Ethel Bowman, of Houston; father, Charles Bowman and step-mother, Lynn Holleran, both of College Station; sister, Lisa Villalobos, of Houston; brothers, Charles Bowman, Jr., of Austin, Thomas Bowman, of Dallas, and William Bowman, of Valencia, Calif.

The family wishes to express its sincere appreciation to the doctors and staff of St. Joseph Regional Health Center for the care they provided. The family also wishes to especially thank Mildred Wilson, of Marlin, for the devoted support and assistance she has given Bruce in recent years.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bruce’s memory to the American Cancer Society, NAMI, or a charity of the donor’s choosing. It is our hope that as a corneal donor, in death, Bruce is able to help return the gift of sight to someone else. Bruce will always be remembered by his family for his dry wit, kindness to others, and the way he faced adversity with dignity and bravery.
