“Chago” Santiago Quiñones Elias

Lic. Santiago Quiñones, 87, of Aguada, Puerto Rico and Bryan, Texas passed away on Friday, July 4, 2014 in his home in Bryan. Visiting hours will be from 5:30 until 7:30 with the rosary recited at 6pm on Tuesday, July 8, at St Mary’s Chapel. Funeral Mass will be at 11am on Wednesday, July 9 at St Mary’s Catholic Center. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Bryan. Reverend David Konderla will officiate. Funeral ceremony is in the care of Callaway-Jones Funeral Home and Crematory.

Santiago (Chago) was born August 22, 1926 in Aguada PR. He was a USA Army Veteran and served in the Korean War. He was an educator of History. He returned to his studies to complete his Law Degree. He was an attorney for 50 years practicing Civil Law in Aguadilla PR. He was a member of the Colegio De Abogados de Puerto Rico. He met Myriam Motta and knew she was his bride to be. They married on June 16, 1956 and have celebrated 58 years of marriage. Together they have created a home of unconditional love for their four children, extended family and friends. Chago was a man of few words but had a heart full of love for his family and friends. He was an avid reader of law books, current periodicals, striving to keep current on an ever-changing society. While keeping his mind aware of changes he could always keep the other eye on his children and grandchildren. He spent many hours with his family encouraging them to take the next best step forward for their community. Often he was between Puerto Rico and Texas visiting his grandchildren and attending many school events. He was a member of the Lions Club International and a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Student Center in College Station.

Preceding Chago in death are his parents; his son Victor Quiñones; and his four brothers.

He is survived by his wife, Myriam Motta; his daughter Miriam Román and her husband Jaime; his sons Noel Quiñones and his wife Soraya , Ariel Quiñones and his wife Evelyn; grandchildren Arlene Leal and husband Jorge Ernesto, Coral Rodriguez and husband Nick, Jaime Román III and wife Emily, Ariel Quiñones, Sara B. Román, and Maria N. Quiñones; his great grandchildren, Jorge Gabriel and Elisa Rodriguez and Cecilia Maria Román; his brothers Ramón, José, Vary; and his sister Ana; and other relatives and close friends.

Our family thanks Hospice of Brazos Valley, St Mary’s Catholic Center, Texas Home Health and the Department of Aging, along with close friends and family for all the care and support during his last days in life.

Que la paz reine en tus corazones por la muerte de Don Chago. Que te sirva de Consuelo que ahora estara en la compania de su familia en el cielo en especial de Victor. Que desde alli continuara su labor de amor para todos sus seres queridos. Un abrazo enorme a Dna. Myriam, yo se que esta muy triste.
