Clifford Keith Smith
December 10, 1962 – March 10, 2019

Keith Smith, 56, of Iola, passed away on Sunday, March 10, 2019, in Iola. A public service honoring his life will be held at a later date. Services are in the care of Callaway-Jones Funeral and Cremation Centers, Bryan-College Station.

Keith was a graduate of Spring High School in 1980; after which, he joined the College Station Police Department (CSPD). His 18-year tenure in law enforcement included assignments in Narcotics Investigation, Uniformed Patrol, Professional Standards, Special Services, SWAT, and Accreditation Compliance. He later founded Keith Smith Enterprises, where he served as its Owner/President until his passing.

Keith possessed a lifelong dedication to learning, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Education and both Masters and Doctors of Philosophy degrees in Educational Human Resources Development from Texas A&M University.

Keith later married Rene Seitler-Smith on April 25, 2015 in Iola, TX. An avid outdoorsman, Keith shared his extensive love for hunting with his wife, often spending entire afternoons and weekends bonding with her over the sport. As a pastime, he enjoyed fishing with his father and shared a passion for photography with his son.

His devotion to scholarship and the outdoors is exceeded only by his dedication as a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, and son. Keith is predeceased by his father, Clifford Virgil Smith. He is survived by his mother, Mary Smith; wife, Rene Smith; son, Taylor Smith; sister, Melissa (James) Appleton; nephew, Trace Hamlin; uncle, David Wilson; and step-daughter, Jocelyn (Jerry) Mendez.

Keith will be fondly remembered as a dedicated former policeman, business owner, sportsman, family member, and friend.

May his family find peace in the coming days. Thank you Keith for your support and service of our community. Much love and respect.

  2. Keith was a great friend of mine from high school and I enjoyed following his FB posts of all his hunting and improvements on his land. It really saddens my heart to hear this news. Prayers for his family during this difficult time.

  3. I am saddened to hear that KEITH has passed away. I was one of his science teachers at Spring High and remember him fondly.

  4. Keith was my neighbor growing up for more years than I can remember. Our families were very close through all those years. I hate to hear of his passing. Prayers to all of his family.

  5. I was blessed to know Dr. Kieth Smith. He was a person of great personal character and integrity. He and Billy Harris started the Railroad Division at Schaeffer Oil. Keith was one of our Top Producers, finishing in the Top 100 at #66. He is gone too soon and will be sorely missed by all his fellow reps and home office friends at Schaeffer. Prayers for Rene & Taylor.
    God speed, Keith,
Jay Schaeffer Shields, CEO, Schaeffer Mfg. Co., St. Louis, MO

  6. Dear Smith Family,
It is very hard when we loose those that we love. It is so very sad.
My thoughts and prayers go with you. If there is anything I can do for you please let me know.
    Blessings Always.
