Melvin was born to Charles Dewey Beene and Nora Pruiett Beene in Millican, Texas on August 19, 1930. He grew up in Bryan, Texas and attended Bryan schools until moving to Houston in 1950. Doug worked in the corrosion coating business in Houston for forty years until he retired in 1995. He moved back to Bryan to continue his old favorite pastime of fishing and hunting. He was very fond of his grandchildren, spoiling them as no other grandfather would.

Doug and Bobbie Nell Kellett (Doodle) were married on September 24, 1951 in Houston, Texas. Together they shared 63 years of marriage and were blessed many times over by their God. They had four children Melvin, Janis, Mary Lois, and Alan; their four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Doug is preceded in death by his parents, Dewey and Nora Beene; brother, Calvin Beene; sisters, Rosa Lee Jensen, Mary Etta Lorance, Frances Beatrice “Dolly” Greer; and daughter, Janis Granger and husband Raymond Granger, and granddaughter, Ashley Beene; his cousin Harvey Pruiett Jr.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his faithful wife of 63 years, Bobbie Nell (Doodle); his daughter, Mary Lois McGhee; his two sons, Melvin Paul Beene and Alan Douglas Beene; his sister, Joyce Beasley and her husband Jerry Beasley; brother-in-law, George Greer; three grandchildren, Chris Cloud, Keving Cloud, and Amber Allen; one great-grandchild, Angel Alan Valverde; and his dear little dog Sissy, his faithful little friend; his cousins, Bill Pruiett, LeroySanders, Jurel Beene, William Beene, Billie Fay Beene, and Betty Sanders; along with many nieces, nephews and friends. He was very well loved and he will be missed dearly.

A special thanks to every one at Lampstand Health & Rehab, and Hospice Brazos Valley for caring for Melvin this past year and his roommate Jack McNulty.
