Emory Garrett

Emory Garrett, 96, of Bryan, passed away Tuesday, February 8, 2011, at St. Joseph Regional Health Center in Bryan. Funeral services celebrating his life will begin at 1 p.m., Friday, February 11, 2011, at Calvary Baptist Church in Bryan, with Rev. David Murphy officiating. Visitation will be from Noon until service time, Friday, at the church. Interment will follow at Norwood Cemetery in Hearne.

Emory was born August 3, 1914, in Brazos County, to Benjamin Garrett and Lela Mae Warren Garrett. He was a lifetime resident of this area, and he was a former Deacon of Calvary Baptist Church in Bryan.

He was retired from the Southern Pacific Railroad, where he worked for 33 years. After his retirement from the railroad, Emory assisted part-time at Callaway-Jones Funeral Home in Bryan for over another 30 years, where he helped work during visitations and funeral services.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Louise Garrett, and a son, Thomas Garrett.

Survivors include his sons and daughter-in-law, David and Jana Garrett, of Franklin, Texas, William Garrett, of Houston, Texas; brothers, Ernest Garrett, of Seattle, WA, Jack Garrett, of Spring, Texas, Don Garrett, of Sutton, Texas; sisters, Amy Williams, of Bryan, Texas, Annie Mae Fulton, of Rowlett, Texas; four grandchildren, and four great grandchildren.
