Gene Arnold Randel

Posted By Web Development On November 2, 2013 @ 12:00 am In Obituary | No Comments

Lt. Col. Gene Arnold Randel (retired), was born in Dodge City, Kansas on August 6th, 1933. Gene peacefully completed his tour of duty here with us on Saturday, November 2, 2013 at his home in Bryan, TX. The family will receive visitors the afternoon of Saturday, November 9, 2013 at 1516 Bennett Street, Bryan TX 77802.

Twenty-four years of service in the USAF took Gene all over the world throughout his career. During his service he met his true love and wife of nearly 50 years, Mickey. Gene’s specialty in the USAF was communications; one of his proudest accomplishments was his instrumental role in the ground communications that supported the Apollo 11 moon landing and future space flights. Gene was also skilled in intra-personal communications, having earned a Master’s Degree in Guidance and Counseling while in the Air Force. He continued working in the communications field after military retirement, travelling all over Texas as an entrepreneur.

Gene loved to travel for both work and pleasure. His favorite trips after retirement included an Italian vacation with Mickey and her parents, Bill and Mary Martin, as well as numerous winter sojourns to Port Aransas with Mickey. Gene also enjoyed puzzles of all kinds, gourmet cooking, was a wizard on the Weber grill, and appreciated a good scotch while watching football. His family will fondly remember his numerous “suggestions”.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer Hiram Randel and Geraldine Randel and most recently by his wife Mickey.

Those left to cherish his memory are his three sons, Gary Randel (Stacy) of Dallas, TX, Martin Randel (Jennifer) of Bryan, TX and Mark Randel (Michèle) of Richardson, TX and seven grandchildren; Nicole, Cory, Melynda, Sidney, Rachael, Joseph and Mary Lucia, as well as three great grandchildren.

The family will be forever indebted to Compassionate Care Hospice for their love and support of Gene and his family. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Compassionate Care Hospice, 3833 S Texas Ave #100, Bryan, TX 77802.
