George Wyman McClarin

George McClarin, 75, went to be with the Lord on May 23, 2018 in Katy Texas.  George was born on April 12, 1943, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to Myrtle and William McClarin.  George was a graduate of Bryan Adams High School and continued on to receive his masters from Central Texas University.  He was married to his high school sweetheart, Karen K McClarin, for 34 years until her passing in April 2000.

George proudly served his county in the National Guard for 6 years. He was a businessman owning three radio stations, a Car-lot, golf cart leasing business, and owning a barbecue restaurant.  in 1986 he entered his career with The Texas Department of Criminal Justice and retired in 2003 as a Captain.

In 2016 he married Fran Progue and they settled down in Bryan TX.  George loved taking care of his ferns, barbequing, playing golf, and metal detecting.

He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Myrtle McClarin, his late wife Karen K. McClarin, and brother Bill McClarin.

Survivors include his wife, Fran Progue; son, Matthew K. McClarin and wife Leti; and grandchildren, Alyssa McClarin, Austin McClarin, and Josh Sanchez.

There will be a rosary recited at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 31, 2018, at Callaway-Jones Funeral Center, 3001 S. College Ave., Bryan. His life will be honored with a Life Tribute Celebration immediately following, with Msgr. John McCaffrey officiating.

    George was an awesome person, he and I had some wonderful times together, he blessed my life by knowing him. George was truly a unique and special person. The Good Lord places people in your life, at just the right times for just the right reasons. Thank you George for some great memories and being a great friend and a genuinely good person.
