Posted By Cody Jones On November 8, 2019 @ 12:56 pm In Obituary | 15 Comments

On Thursday, November 7, 2019, Gloria Means Woodall, age 88, loving wife and mother of four daughters, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loved ones in College Station, Texas.
Gloria was born on November 28, 1930, in Belton, Texas to Victor Rather and Ola Mae (Cook) Means. She was a 1948 graduate of Belton High School and attended Baylor University. She met her husband James Raymond Woodall while he was attending ROTC Summer Camp at Fort Hood, Texas. Jim and Gloria married on January 6, 1951, in Belton and they were soon off to their first adventure when Jim deployed to Germany with the Second Armored Division.
Gloria and Jim shared a passion for travel, visiting countless countries during their 68 years of marriage. As an Army wife, she moved numerous times across the U.S. and Europe and could miraculously make any house a home in a matter of days. In 1977, they made their final move from Germany to College Station where Jim was assigned to Texas A&M as the professor of military science and commandant of cadets. She was an active member of the Officers’ Wives’ Club, serving in many leadership positions over the years. Other activities she enjoyed included a monthly book club and a gourmet luncheon group. Her greatest joy was time spent with her large growing family with time filled with fun, laughter and love.
She was preceded in death by her parents and older sister, Frances Means Utley (Kelley). She is survived by her husband Jim; daughters Susan Gardiner (Jack), Carol Honeycutt (Rick), Melissa Carpenter (Floyd) and Martha Page (John); grandchildren Bradley Honeycutt (Jennifer), Christopher Honeycutt (Rosanna), Michael Carpenter (Robin), Elizabeth Gardiner Benson (Cole), Lauren Carpenter Rosenberg (Aaron), Andrew Page, William Gardiner, Steven Page and Sarah Page; 14 great-grandchildren; a younger brother Victor Means, Jr. (Janice); brother-in-law David Woodall; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Monday, November 11, 2019, from 5:00-7:00pm at Callaway-Jones Funeral Center, 3001 S College Ave. in Bryan, Texas. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, November 12, 2019, at 11:00am at the College Station City Cemetery to be officiated by Rev. Jonathan Murray.
The Woodall family extends much gratitude and appreciation to nurses and caregivers Marti, Meghan, Jessica and Tay from Hospice Brazos Valley and Daysja Rosenbaum.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Gloria’s memory may be made to Covenant Presbyterian Church, 220 Rock Prairie Rd., College Station, Texas 77845 or Hospice Brazos Valley, 502 West 26th St., Bryan, Texas 77803.

Martha, I’m so sorry to hear of your mother’s passing. Your mother was always such a classy lady. I’ll never forget once when I was in our modular dorm room one morning while you were at class and I was studying for a test. I was munching away on popcorn (about the ONLY thing we were allowed to cook!) at probably 8:30 or so when she knocks on the door. I’m not sure what she thought of my “breakfast”, but I can only imagine, lol. I’ll never forget all the graciousness she used to show me. How special for her to live to see all her grandchildren grown and to be blessed with so many grandchildren and great grandchildren. I know she’ll be missed.
