Gordon Lee Currin

Gordon Lee Currin passed from this life on September 21, 2013 at the age of 81. There will be a private family graveside service in Gause, Texas.

Gordon was born on September 7, 1932 and grew up in Gause, Texas. He married his high school sweetheart, Margaret L. Gaston on August 29, 1953. They lived in Bryan, Texas for many years where they raised five daughters.

Gordon joined the US Navy and served in the Korean Conflict where he received a Purple Heart before being honorably discharged. He worked for the Bryan Power Plant before it was BTU, then owned and operated Gordon’s Truck Salvage for many years. During the course of his varied working life, he operated an army surplus shop, owned and raced a modified car at Moody Speedway, designed tow truck beds, raised cattle, ran a flea market, conducted feral hog hunts, and was an optimistic gardener–sometimes on a grand scale. Gordon could spin a good story and enjoyed wheeling and dealing.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Lenore Currin, his brother Ronnie and sister Louise, second wife Loyas, and son-in-law, Darrell.

Survivors include Margaret, the mother of his children; all five daughters Karen Knabe, Linda Cox, Connie Currin, Dawn Currin and Diane Whiteley; two sons-in-law, Clifford Whiteley and Carl Cox; seven grandchildren and their spouses, Simon and Janette Currin, Daniel Currin, Luke Whiteley, Angela and William Fleming, Stephen and Kari, Kevin and Marvin, Jeffrey and Julie Knabe; and six great-grandchildren Jacob, Trinity, Cadence and Logan Fleming, Landon and Greyson Knabe (plus one on the way).
