Gregory Bessette

Gregory David Bessette
Dec. 5, 1960-May 7, 2011

Greg (Boggie) Bessette passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, May 7, 2011. He was a long-time resident of the Brazos Valley, moving here from Fall River, Massachusetts. He was the son of Normand and Toshiko Bessette.

Greg’s heart was given over to Deborah Claire Patranella, and they were married on October 10, 1987. Their marriage was the center of his life, and he was above all a “family man.” He was extremely proud of his son, David Gregory Bessette, and he eagerly anticipated David’s upcoming graduation from Sam Houston University.

He was preceded in death by his father Normand Bessette.

Greg is survived by his wife Deborah Bessette; son, David Bessette; mother, Toshiko Bessette; brothers, Roger Bessette; James Bessette and wife Irene; sister Angie Kaldro; sister, Gloria Bessette and partner Laura Currie; brother-in-law, Frank Patranella and wife Debbie; sister-in-law, Jeanne Maddox and husband Mike; sister-in-law, Rose Rosser and husband Jim. Greg is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Greg had a long, successful career working in the oil field. He was a kind, good- natured man who had love for plants and a passion for fishing. Many weekends he could be found at Birch Creek, fishing off the pier. He will be extremely missed by his family and friends; his passing is a loss to all who were blessed to have known him.

Visitation is set for Wednesday, May 11, 2011 from 5 p.m. till 8 p.m. at Callaway-Jones Funeral Home Chapel the rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass is set for 10 a.m. Thursday, May 12, 2011 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. Interment will be at College Station Cemetery.

  4. Life is full of ups and downs. But bereavement is a unique happening by itself. It tends to shatter one’s life. We can understand the loss faced by you and indeed it is hard for us to console you. But this is the time when in death, we realize the significance of life and in loss we realize the importance of our valuable dear ones. Please accept our condolences on this sad occasion. May God help you come out of grief soon.

  5. My prayers go out to the family on this unexpected passing. I only worked with Greg for a short time, but he made a lasting impression. God’s peace to all.

  6. My Deepest Sympathy to all. It breaks my heart to know the world has lost such a good person as Greg. He was a strong leader and mentor to me over the years and he will sorely missed. However, what he has taught me over the years will continue to live on indefinitly. Not only was Greg a collegue of mine here at Superior, but he was a good friend. If there is anything I can do, please let me know. My prayers will be with you all, and Greg will always live in my heart.
    Respectfully, Tommy Newsom

  10. May you find comfort in your husband’s and fathers memories, and strength in the companionship of the life you shared together. Your tears are not unnoticed by the Creator of Life and I certainly hope that the help God can give at this time will make a difference. Although I have not personally met the family I pray the tender mercy that God has always shown be with you now so you will know that you are not alone and may the prayers of others help in some small way to bring you strength and comfort and courage each day. Soon He will actually swallow up death forever, and the Sovereign Lord will certainly wipe the tears from all faces Isaiah 25:8. Revelation 21:4 mentions a time when He will wipe all our tears away and death and sorrow and pain will be no more. May these thoughts from the Bible bring you hope.

  15. It was with shock and disbelief that we heard of Greg’s passing. A man with great compassion for others and a deep and abiding love for Deborah, David, his Mom and all his brothers and sisters, will be deeply missed. Words cannot express what an incomprehensible sorrow this is and how unknowingly his life touched others. Greg made a difference and that legacy will not die. It lives on through all of you. God bless the Bessette family, now and forever.
