Iris Eulene McCartney

Iris Eulene McCartney, 80, of Bryan, passed away Sunday, February 20, 2011, at St. Joseph Regional Health Center in Bryan. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, February 23, at Callaway-Jones Funeral Home in Bryan. A funeral ceremony celebrating her life is set for 1 p.m., Thursday, February 24, 2011, at Callaway-Jones, with Rev. Craig Yates officiating. Interment will follow at Rest-Ever Memorial Park in Bryan.

Iris was born January 30, 1931, in Beaumont, Texas, to Forrest B. Small and Zula Davis Small. She has lived in the Brazos Valley area for over 50 years. She was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church in Bryan, and she was a member of the Order of Eastern Star. Many of her friends and relatives knew her as “Grammy.”

Pallbearers are Sonny Holligan, Tom Hanson, Tommy Broughton, Jason McCartney, Brian McCartney, and Bick Lemons.

Iris was preceded in death by her husband, O.C. “Mac” McCartney; sister, Lorraine Scott; and her parents.

Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Forrest and Estela McCartney, of Bryan, Texas; daughters and son-in-law, Debbie McCartney and T.D. Tommy Palmos, of Bryan, Texas, Sherry McCartney, of Hearne, Texas; grandchildren, Sonny Holligan, Tommy Broughton and wife Marion, Jason McCartney and wife Abby, Brian McCartney; and longtime friend and companion, Calvin Tucker.

In her memory, memorials may be made to Hillcrest Baptist Church at 4220 Boonville Rd., Bryan, Texas 77802.

    I am truly feeling your loss. Your mom, dad and Aunt and Uncle, and your Grandparents were such a huge part of my childhood life. Actually the best part. I remember how we used to get to gether in mom’s living room and hear ghost stories from your dad. Your mom was always so sweet and beautiful. I felt like you were part of my family.
    I will miss her, but I know she is so happy to see Mac, Lorraine, and Forrest and Zula. What a reunion they are having now. If yall ever need anything, just call me. I love you guys. Linda

    I am very sorry to hear of Iris’ passing. She was definitely a loving, beautiful woman that I have remembered all of my life. Your parents were very special to me and to this day, I can hear both of them say “Baby Sharon”! The McCartney family are special to me and my family, and know that you all are in my thoughts and prayers at this time. I feel truely blessed to have known Mrs. Iris all of my life!   3. Iris was a very special lady and a very special friend. We shared many laughs at SFA High School Reunions and many 42 games in the past. She was such a beautiful and caring person and leaves us with many precious memories. May God grant the family His Peace and His Strength during this time of your loss.
