Jim was born July 6, 1925, in Dawson New Mexico, Colfax County. Jim and his two sisters Marion and Barbara were the pride and joy of their parents Amy Irene and Tracy C. Mitchell. Jim attended primary and secondary schools in Colfax County. After serving in the Navy, with an honorable discharge, Jim continued his education earning a degree in finance from the University of New Mexico, UNM. Upon graduation from UNM Jim accepted a full-time position within the General Motors Co. Favorite destinations included Santa Fe and Albuquerque New Mexico, Hawaii, Alaska, as well as annual trips to Branson, Missouri. Jim also enjoyed spending time with his three grandchildren James, Amy and John Austin taking them fishing, gardening, traveling and to church-wide activities every summer.

Jim’s Christian faith, as well as his family, was very important to him. Both Jim and Gladyne were active members of A&M United Methodist Church, often assisting in the office and volunteering at the local food bank.
