Janie Medina Rios

Janie Rios
March 6, 1932 – August 21, 2018

Janie Rios went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, August 21, 2018, in Bryan.  Visitation will be Friday, August 24, 2018 at 5 with a rosary recited at 6:30pm at the funeral  center.  Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9 am, Saturday, August 25, 2018, at Santa Teresa Catholic Church. Interment will be in Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Services are in the care of Callaway-Jones Funeral and Cremation Centers, Bryan-College Station.

Janie was born in Wheelock, Texas on March 6, 1932 to Aquillio and Viviana Medina.  She was born into a family of six sisters and three  brothers.  Janie began her career at the age of fifteen at Congdon’s Bakery as counter staff.  She learned the art of cake decorating working alongside Gertrude Congdon.  On October 3, 1942 she married Pete Munoz. They were happily married  for twenty-one years until his untimely death in 1973.  In 1974 she continued her career at Texas A&M MSC Student Center as a cake decorator at which time she met and later married Ben Rios on December 13, 1976.   In 1979, Janie opened her home-based bakery and decorated cakes for the community until the age of seventy-five when she retired for health reasons.  Janie loved sports but she was passionate about her Texas Aggies and Dallas Cowboys.  In December, 2014 she was diagnosed with the beginning stages of Alzheimer’s.  Ben devoted his life to taking care of her until her death. They were married 42 years.

Preceded in death are her parents Aquillio and Viviana Medina, first husband, Pete Munoz, her son, Petey Munoz, sisters Rosie (Aurelio) Ochoa, Martha (Filemon) Salazar, Felicita (George) Ortega, Sally Moncivais Garcia (Manual and Marion), Carmen (Martin) Munoz; brothers, Tommy Medina and David Medina; sister-in-law Mary Rios and brother-in-law, Lee Rios.

Janie leaves behind daughters and sons-in-law, Cynthia Solis and husband Jesse, Gloria Medina and husband Rudy, Patricia Tello and husband John, Benita Rios and husband Tony Miller, Peggy Rios; a son, Ben Rios, Jr and wife Ruth;  a daughter-in-law, Cheryl Munoz; one brother, Jesse Medina and wife Margaret; brothers-in-law, Paul Rios and wife Alice, David Rios and wife Margaret; sisters-in-law, Rachel Medina, Margo Medina, Mary Martinez, Cecilia Rios and Vera Tigerina and husband Trinidad; Twenty-two grandchildren, fifty-two great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.
