Jimmy Ryan
May 12, 1937 – April 21, 2013

Jimmy Ryan, 75, of Bryan, passed away Sunday morning, April 21, 2013 at his residence. His family will receive friends during a visitation from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m., Tuesday, April 23, at Callaway-Jones Funeral Home in Bryan. Funeral services are set for 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 24, also at the funeral home, with Pastor Joel Withem officiating. Interment will follow at the New Tabor Cemetery.

Jim was born May 12, 1937 in Dime Box, Texas, to Willie Ryan and Lydia Hejl Owens. He married his loving wife, Frances Ryan on March 27, 1982. Jim was a member of the Brazos Valley Family Worship Center, and was also a member of Jimmy Swaggart Ministries Family Worship Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. One of Jim’s favorite hobbies was working out at Aerofit, which he made a daily routine with his wife, Frances.

Following his first job as a prison guard for the Texas Department of Corrections, Jim went on to work for the Bryan Fire Department, where he would eventually retire after almost 30 years of serving the communities of Bryan and College Station. After retiring from the Bryan Fire Department, Jim became a staff member at Callaway-Jones Funeral Home for another 28 years of dedicated service where he truly enjoyed assisting on funerals and serving families by driving the limousine and making night calls.

Jim was preceded in death by his step-son, Thomas Leroy Sonnier; and his parents.

Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Frances Ryan; step-sons, Michael Ray Sonnier, Rene Wayne Sonnier; brother, Johnny Owens; and sister, Betty Wheeler.

In lieu of flowers, donations are preferred to the Brazos Valley Family Worship Center at 4839 N. Texas Ave., Bryan, TX 77803.

Condolences for the family of “Jimmy Ryan”

Condolence from Danny & Cathie Moody on April 23rd, 2013 9:40 am

What a wonderful Man of God and what a wonderful man Jimmy was. We loved him so much and prayed for him every day after he was diagnosed. He was a true example for Christ and we will miss him very much. Heaven is a brighter place now. I told Danny that I could picture in my mind Jimmy’s reaction when he stepped through the Gates of Heaven. I know that he was so excited that he could hardly contain himself. What a blessing.

Condolence from Rev. Saul Portillo on April 23rd, 2013 10:41 am

Although our hearts are left with a void, our spirits are filled with joy knowing that our beloved Jimmy went on ahead of us to prepare our arrival.
On behalf of my wife and family I wish Frances and her family peace, comfort, serenity, hope, faith, encouragement, faith, and anticipation for our redemption is nearer than when we first believed.

Condolence from Fred & Charlotte Gonzales on April 23rd, 2013 4:51 pm

Brother Ryan will be missed greatly by our whole family, he was a dear friend and the sweetest, kindest person we have ever known. He loved to spread the word of God. He was always happy and we have never seen him look sad, mad or upset, he always looked liked he had joy in his heart. We loved going to church just to see Brother Ryan and when he preached the word of God he has such passion in his heart for it. But he is with our Lord and Savior, a little earlier than we all wanted. We love Francis, his wife, and I know he did also with all his heart, you never seen them apart. We will miss you Brother Ryan until we meet someday again. Love you, Fred, Charlotte, Mike, Morgan, Marissa and Mason

Francis, I am sending HUGS from Virginia for you. I know it is such a loss for you, but we know without a doubt that Jimmy is dancing in Heaven with John. I am sorry I could not attend the service. Jimmy was an AWESOME man of God! Peace be still.
