Joyce Luster

Joyce was born in Temple, Texas, on August 14, 1928 to Will and Ola (Booth) Linn of the Oenaville community in Bell County. She graduated in 1945 from Temple High School. She continued her education at Abilene Christian University where she majored in Voice Music, studying under the famed blind musician Dr. Leonard Burford and performing with the a capella chorus and women’s sextet. Ms. Luster worked in banking for over 40 years in Austin, Memphis, Houston, and College Station. Prior to her retirement from NCNB Texas, she was a New Accounts Representative and Personal Banker.

Joyce and Hank had one daughter, Diane Joyce Castle, born on September 24, 1952. As an adult, Diane elected to be known as Diane Linn to honor her grandfather. She graduated from High School and subsequently pursued a career as a paralegal. Her most recent employer was Rodgers, Miller & Rodriguez PC in Bryan, TX.

She was preceded in death by her three husbands Henry, Forrest, and Donald.

Diane Linn died on January 10, 2017, and her mother died on March 30, 2017. She is survived by her three cousins, Jane Aten, June Estes, and Gene Linn. Her cousin Gene, and Ms. D’Ann Arnold, a family friend from Bryan, will coordinate a joint memorial service for Mrs. Luster and her daughter Diane at 3:00 p.m. Saturday April 1, 2017, at Callaway-Jones Funeral Center, 3001 S. College Avenue, Bryan, TX. Both mother and daughter will be buried at Rest-Ever Memorial Park Cemetery in Bryan.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Houston Chow Chow Connection Rescue.

Condolences

  1. Diane, you were my soulmate in the 1980s and 1990s. We shared spirit animals and were kindred spirits for many years. You taught me the ropes of being a paralegal and were there for me in my darkest hours. You were an artistic, sensitive spirit. I will always cherish our friendship.

    Love always,
    Ermine
