Joyce Turner, 86, of Bryan, passed away on Monday August 29, 2016 in Bryan. Funeral services are scheduled for 1pm, Thursday, September 1, 2016 at St. Luke’s Methodist Church in Bryan. Interment will follow at the Bryan City Cemetery. Officiating will be Rev. Wade Coleman, pastor and friend of Westminster Presbyterian Church. Services are in the care of Callaway-Jones Funeral and Cremation Centers.

Joyce McDonald was born to James Neil and Vivian Thompson McDonald in Bay City, Texas. Joyce was a lady of great adventure; she joined the US Army serving our country during the Korean Conflict. She was married to John Henry Turner, for 62 years who passed away in 2013. Joyce and John raised their son Johnny in a home of unconditional love and support.

Joyce’s passion was working with her many crafts including cross-stitch, crochet and jewelry making. She was also in charge of the Bay City Blackcat Class of 1947 gathering and newsletter. Joyce was involved in the Bay City Bowling League for many years and served as a member of the Matagorda County Hospital Pink Ladies and various other crafts and clubs in the Bay City area. She retired as the Assistant County Auditor for Matagorda County. As a grandmother Joyce loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Joyce was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Bay City.

Preceding her in death are her husband, John Henry Turner; her brother Thomas McDonald and both of her parents.

Joyce is survived by her son Johnny Lee Turner and wife Debbie; her grandchildren Kristin Kier and husband Sean, Andy Turner and wife Emily; her great-grandchildren Elizabeth, Kathryn, Camryn, Kennedy, and Colton; her brothers J.N. McDonald and wife Barbara, Bryan McDonald and wife Wilma; her sister in-law JoAnn McDonald; her sister Mary Ann Sutton; and numerous nephews and nieces; and close friends to the family.

  2. So sorry to hear about your Mother, Johnny. I know you all will miss her much. Her and my mother, went to school today and mother will be deeply sadden when she hears the news. Your mother called my mother often and they would talk for hours. I know she is with her heavenly Father and doing well. God Bless You All during this sad time.
