Katherine Joe Smith, 84, of College Station, passed away Friday, November 27, 2009, at her residence. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday, December 1, 2009, at Callaway-Jones Funeral Home in Bryan. Visitation will also be on Tuesday from 1 p.m. until service time. Interment will follow at the College Station City Cemetery.
Katherine was born September 7, 1925 in Union Springs Oklahoma to James and Vera Harper. She has been a resident of the area since 1962 and belonged to the Texas A&M University Retiree Association. She worked as a bookkeeper and accountant for the Texas A&M University Vet School.
In addition to her work, Katherine also enjoyed traveling with her daughter.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Smith; her son, Tommy Smith Jr.; her daughter, Wendi Grimsinger; and her parents.
Survivors include her daughter, Pam Smith, of College Station; grandchildren, Curtis Cooper, Christel Cooper, Renelle Sellers, Summer Smith, and Misti Grimsinger; six great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested memorial donations to the Brazos Food Bank at 1514 Shiloh Ave., Bryan, TX 77803.
I worked with Katherine at the Vet School for many years. She was always so nice. I know you will miss her very much! My condolences.
