Kelley Kavanaugh

Kelley Slack Kavanaugh
February 29, 1968 – March 22, 2018

Kelley Slack Kavanaugh died peacefully at Brazos Valley Hospice in Bryan, Texas, on March 22, 2018, at the age of 50, surrounded by family, friends and her favorite memories and pictures. A time for visitation will be from 6 until 8pm Monday, March 26, 2018, at Callaway-Jones Funeral Center, 3001 S College Ave in Bryan. A Life Tribute Celebration service is set for 11 am Tuesday, March 27, at Christ United Methodist Church in College Station with Rev. Jerry House officiating. There will be a private family interment at the College Station Memorial Cemetery. Services are in the care of Callaway-Jones Funeral and Cremation Centers of Bryan College Station.

Kelley was born in Lubbock, Texas, on February 29, 1968, and grew up in Tyler, Texas, graduating from Robert E. Lee High School in 1986, still keeping in touch with many of her girlfriends who continued to provide love and support when she needed it most.  She attended TCU and graduated from Texas A&M University in 1990 and started her career in financial services, moving quickly into management positions. She maintained many lifelong relationships from her dedication and mentorship of her colleagues.

She met the love of her life, Ross Kavanaugh, in 1995 and later married in Las Vegas, Nevada, in 1998. They built their home in College Station where they had two beautiful twins daughters, Kate and Sara, in 2007. Kelley never took the short path and fought hard through every step of this journey.  Four years later, her life was changed with the discovery of stage 4 breast cancer. She never allowed this to define who she was.

She remained steadfast in her love for Christ Jesus, positive of the healing power of the Lord, faithful in God’s grace and hopeful for a cure. Kelley surrounded herself with positive healing influences and began a new journey that included the support from a Glamping group that became her Tribe. She was involved in Bible study at Christ United Methodist Church. You could follow her journey on her blog, Kelley’s Krusade. Kelley’s devotion to her family, her friends, and to her Lord and Savior gives us all faith that we will see her again in Heaven.  Her beautiful smile shines down on us today.

Kelley is preceded in death by her Father Rickey James Marlar, her Mother Shirley Elaine Dunfee, her Grandmother Virginia Marlar, her Grandfather Jimmie Marlar, and her Grandfather Joe Harris, and her Mother-in-law Doinan Kavanaugh.

She is survived by her husband John Ross Kavanaugh and twin daughters, Kate Elizabeth Kavanaugh and Sara Elayna Kavanaugh of College Station, Texas, and her son Jacob Kavanaugh and his fiancé Brittany Mater from Spring, Texas, her Grandmother Betty Jane Harris, her Aunt Tomie Marlar Mason, her Uncle David Fletcher and Aunt Charlotte Fletcher, her Aunt and second mother Sharell Harris Bane, her Uncle Ronald Harris, and Brother-in-law Dwayne Kavanaugh and his wife Vicki Kavanaugh, Brother-in-law Ray Kavanaugh and his wife Mindi Kavanaugh, and nephews and nieces: Brian Kavanaugh, Jeffery Kavanaugh, Monica Eriskine, Maci Greene, Kyle Kavanaugh, Molli Greene, Kaleigh Kavanaugh, Marshall Greene, Korra Kavanaugh, Miranda Greene, Myla Greene, Cole Kavanaugh, Logan Kavanaugh, and Emily Kavanaugh, and cousins: Don Held, Chicki Terry, Lauren Harris, Gabi Love, Joey Harris and Max Harris.

Kelley,
you had such a significant impact on me as a leader, a woman, and as a person. Your light will forever shine amongst us. I am so blessed to have known you and to have been able to call you my friend. You were always kind, inspiring, motivating, joyful, and expressive. You brightened a room like no other and I know that many of us aspire to have your zest for life and relationships. What a celebration they must have had in Heaven yesterday knowing that you were coming home. You will be forever thought of and missed but I know that we will meet again one day. Save me a seat at your table Kelley. I love you and I will honor you by always striving to be a better person, leader, and friend.

Kelley, you will be forever missed and never forgotten. You always had such a rainbow spirit, its one of many things that I admired about you. I know they always say, the ones we love are in a better place of peace, but we’re human and it still hurts like you know what when reality hits that we will no longer see you or hear your funny laugh on this side. But I’m happy I had the opportunity to know you and I’m happy you can hug God every day and tell him funny jokes.

Condolence from Martha Boughton on March 24th, 2018 1:28 pm

We didn’t know Kelley personally, our connection is through Jacob and Brittany, who we love with all our hearts. When I read Kelley’s story I see that she was a fighter and a loving person to all she knew. I wish we would of had the time to know her. The Lord had other plans for her and someday we will meet in His loving arms.
Our thoughts and prayers to the Kavanaugh family.
