LaVerne Stephenson

LaVerne Stephenson, 88, of College Station, passed away Tuesday, November 28, 2017. Her Funeral Service will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday, December 2, 2017, at Callaway-Jones Funeral Center in Bryan. Family and friends are invited to a time of visitation from 9 am until service time. There will be a private graveside interment for family at Seaside Memorial Park in Corpus Christi.

LaVerne was born in Magnolia Springs, Texas, to Charlie and Nannie Hunter. Some of her favorite activities included travel, sewing, cooking, and singing. She also enjoyed spending time with her cats, and they loved her right back. Above all else, her greatest gift was that of taking care of others. She was a loving, caring, selfless person who was always ready to lend a listening ear and a helping hand.

She was preceded in death by her infant children, Christopher and Elizabeth Cooley; brother, Charles Hunter; sister, Nonie Cruse; and her parents.

Survivors include her loving husband, Jim Stephenson; daughter, Cheryl Staples and husband Layton, of Bryan; step-daughters, Stephanie Kruger and husband Louis, Sherry Ellenbogen, Stacy Hallmark and husband Ron; sister, Beth Carruth and husband Bill, of Corpus Christi; grandchildren, Jennifer Wiseman and husband Jammar, Kristen Barker and husband Jason, Chris Kruger and wife Lacey, Kimberly Casanova and husband Vinnie, Heather Ellenbogen, Dane Ellenbogen, Hunter Hallmark, Hannah Hallmark; six great grandchildren, Lane Barker, Layla Wiseman, Maggie Kruger, Nellie Kruger, Clara Casanova, Vince Casanova, and her nieces and nephews.

  2. So sorry for you loss. Your mom was always good to us when we would visit. Prayers of peace at this time as I know it is stressful and sad. Your mom will be missed. Brenda and I were just chatting about her the day this happened. Love the Kanes
