Margaret Sue Boone

Margaret Sue Boone, our beloved mother, went to be with the Lord, Saturday, October 29, 2011. A graveside service will be held Friday, November 4, at Bryan City Cemetery, 1111 S. Texas Avenue, Bryan, Texas at 1:00 PM. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, November 5, at 11:00 AM, at Terrace United Methodist Church, 1203 Wirt Road, Houston, Texas. Arrangements are in the care of Callaway-Jones Funeral Home and Crematory in Bryan.

Margaret was born in Tabor Texas, January 13, 1926; but was reared in Bryan, Texas where she graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School. She worked for the Agricultural Extension Service, on the Texas A&M Campus where she met and married H.S. (Dan) Boone, a student at A&M.

Margaret was a lifelong Methodist and a member of Terrace United Methodist Church. She loved the Lord and loved the church and her church family. She was a popular teacher of the Christian Witness Class and served as a small group leader for Bible Study Fellowship. In the mid 1950s, Margaret and Dan joined the Voyagers Young Married Class at St. Mark’s Methodist Church, where life long friendships and bonds were developed which survive to this day.

Margaret worked for the Spring Branch ISD as an administrative assistant until 1974 when she joined the family business, Dan’l Boone Insurance Agency, as a Customer Service Representative. She loved working with the clients and she soon became the voice of the agency. Most of all Margaret loved, cherished, and was devoted to her family, children and great-grandchildren. She was a marvelous cook and loved to entertain. Christmas and other holidays were special because of the attention Mom gave to details. Her gentleness of spirit and quiet sense of humor were ever present.

Preceding Margaret in death were her parents, Tom and Ella Benbow; brother, Evan; sister, Marie; and granddaughter, Leigh Bess Boone.

Margaret is survived by her husband, H.S. (Dan) Boone; daughter, Evelyn Bray and husband Carl; sons, Keith, Tom and wife Jodie, Bob and wife Janet. She is survived by ten grandchildren and seven great-grand children: Ellen Bray Thompson and husband Mark, Evan Bray, George Boone, Judy Dornak and husband Mark, Byron Boone and wife Heather, Nathan Boone, James Boone, Craig Boone, Rene Boone and husband Mike Slack, and Philip Boone. Great-grand children are: Kelly and Adam Thompson, Spencer and Cole Boone, and Tessa, Sadie, and Morgan Dornak. She also is survived by numerous other relatives and loving friends.

The family thanks Heaven Sent, her home the last few months of her life and Houston Hospice, for the loving care they gave to Margaret these last weeks and months. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, www.alz.org.
