Mary Lou Lenz Newsom

Mary Lou Newsom, 78, of College Station, passed away on Wednesday, August 19, 2015 at her residence. Her family will receive guests during visiting hours on Tuesday, August 25th at St. Michael’s Academy Chapel, 2402 South College Ave in Bryan from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm. A graveside service will be at 2pm on Tuesday, August 25th at Rest-Ever Memorial Cemetery, 5103 Texas Ave North, Bryan, with Pastor Randall Bard officiating. Services are in the care of Callaway-Jones Funeral Home and Crematory.

Mary Lou was born on March 30, 1937 in Kurten, Texas to Henry and Alma Lenz. On June 1, 1963, she married the love of her life, Elmo Newsom, Jr. and was a life-long resident of the Brazos Valley. She was a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church and the Sons of Hermann.

Mary Lou enjoyed spending time outdoors, rooting for the Fightin’ Texas Aggies, teaching her nephews and nieces how to perch jerk, and visiting with family and friends. She loved telling stories and never met a stranger. No task was too daunting for Mary Lou, she mastered wood working and was envied by many for her intricate crocheting talent. She humbly used these skills to craft gifts that are cherished by her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers Eugene Lenz and William Lenz; sisters Bernice Myers, Doris Luther, and Johanna Luther.

Mary Lou’s survivors include her husband, Elmo Newsom, Jr. of College Station; brother Fred Lenz; sister Margaret Eimann; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
