Mary Kathryn Self passed away on Saturday, November 21, 2009, in Robertson County. She succumbed to cancer at the age of 66 while under the loving care of best friend Rick Self. She lived in Kingsland, TX, but had been a resident of Bryan / College Station for over 20 years.
Mary was born in Houston, TX, on November 13, 1944, to George and Cory Schneider. She was an avid horticulturalist and spent much of her life collecting and growing plants. Known for her kindness and love for the outdoors, Mary tried to make the world a more beautiful place with flowers and gardens.
Mary is survived by brother Mike Schneider, of Houston, TX; and her children, Jack Gibbs, of Georgetown, TX, Andy Gibbs, of College Station, TX, Mary Chavez of Seattle, WA, and Melanie Marine, of Corvallis, OR.
Though I did not know Mary very long, she is someone I treasure meeting. I will remember Mary and how she touched my heart. My thoughts and condolences to her family.
