Mavis Zuehlke passed away on Saturday, May 31, 2014. She was a wonderful wife and mom. Mavis’s family loved her so very much. The family will receive guests during a visitation from 5 until 7 p.m. on Friday, June 6, 2014 at Callaway-Jones Funeral Home in Bryan. Funeral services will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 7, 2014 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in College Station, with interment to follow at the College Station Cemetery.

Mavis was born in Prairie Hill, Texas on the family farm on April 22, 1930. While attending school, Mavis and her five siblings also assisted in planting and harvesting cotton and corn, milking cows, and many other daily chores. In 1949, she fell in love with one of her brother’s friends and later married Paul Zuehlke Jr. upon his return from Korea. The newly married couple settled down in Brenham, Texas where they had three children: Darrell, Carol, and Jimmy. With three children, a new home, neighborhood, and church, Mavis kept herself busy with numerous school and church activities. She was well known for her cooking and baking among family and friends. In addition, Mavis loved to crochet. Through the years she made many baby blankets and afghans.

One of Mavis’ greatest joys was spending time with her children and grandchildren. Her love for family was so evident in the many pictures on every wall of the home she shared with Paul for 61 years.

Mavis is preceded in death by her parents, Otto and Hattie Wehring, her brother Wilburn Wehring, and her sister Eileen Wehmeyer. Survivors include her husband, Paul, her sister, Helen Bockhorn of Brenham, her brother Otto Wehring, Jr. and wife, Doris Jean of Brenham, her brother Harry Wehring and wife, Jeanette of Brenham; three children Darrell Wayne and wife Gillian, of Brookshire, Texas, Carol Sue (Zuehlke) Childress and husband, Edward, of Annetta, Texas, and Jimmy Allen and wife, Kim of Kyle, Texas; grandchildren, Suzanne Simon, Alan Osbeck and wife, Julie, Adam Osbeck and wife, Amanda, Lindsey Childress, Bobby and wife, Kelsey, and Brittany Zuehlke; and her great-grandchildren, Lathan Simon, Danica Simon, Julia Osbeck, Alaina Osbeck, and Reagan Childress.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America at 322 Eighth Ave., 7th fl., New York, NY, 10001.

Our deepest sympathy is extended to Paul and the Zuehlke family. Comfort can be taken in the knowledge that Mavis is no longer suffering and that she is enjoying the company of her Maker.

Paul and family I so sorry to hear about the passing of Mavis. She was such a lovely and caring person. She was absolutely a great cook. I remember all the cookie trays she used to prepare for everyone during the holidays. My prayers are with you all.
