Michael Stuckey

Michael K. Stuckey
September 12, 1949 – April 29, 2016

We don’t know a lot about Michael’s distant past other than him receiving Christ in the desert of Arizona as he contemplated suicide. Michael said that God spoke to him and told him to pick up where the Apostle Paul left off. God commissioned Michael to take nothing with him other than the clothes on his back and walk across the United States sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Michael made the road his home and over 13 years he walked more than 37,000 miles spreading the Good News that God is faithful and Jesus Saves.

In January 2015, Michael made his way through Bryan/College Station and was camped in his tent on Hwy 21 in Wixon Valley when Lisa Fry Cross, her daughter Jillian Carter and family friend, Samantha Boring, met him. Rain was falling and soaking what few belongings he had so Lisa, Jillian and Samantha helped pack him up and took him to a local motel where he stayed for 9 days. Lisa was so moved by Michael’s story and by the gentle spirit of such a sweet man that she created a Facebook Page, “Keeping Eyes On Michael Stuckey”. Through this page she was able to keep up with his location until he decided to make Bryan, Texas his home in December 2015. Lisa’s kindness and obedience to the Holy Spirit allowed Michael’s story to reach thousands of people and it reminds us that we are called to love one another the way Christ loves us.

When Amanda met Michael April 30, 2015 she had just lost her best friend and was in a very dark place. God spoke to her and told her to get up and drive. She found Michael in Carthage Texas and spent several hours with him. This encounter literally saved her life and changed her at the heart of who she was. He wrote a note to her in her Bible that day that read, “Jesus is Lord; He is the ultimate, sovereign God and is in control and God can handle it, no matter how hard it seems to you. You just have to turn it over to God and forget about it. IT IS HANDLED!” These words have been an anchor for her and words could never express her gratitude for crossing paths which such an amazing man.

September 12, 2015, Lisa Fry Cross and Amanda Yates traveled to Arkansas to celebrate Michael’s 66 birthday with him. He said that was the first time in over 15 years that someone had wished him Happy Birthday. He told us that weekend that he considered us family and he would be making his way back to Bryan to spend Christmas with his “family”. We were so blessed when he decided to call Bryan home. We are so very thankful for every single person that helped Michael along the way. We are even more thankful that he had a home to call his own until the day he was called to his Eternal home. None of this would have been possible without the many who selflessly donated money to help with Michael’s necessities and all the prayers for him.

Since Michael had no family that we know of we would like to take this opportunity to thank each of the 5000 plus people who followed him on Facebook, Katy Fuchs for selflessly helping with Michael’s Facebook Page, every person who prayed for him, every doctor that took care of him when he was sick, every person who stopped to give him a drink or a warm meal to eat and to Callaway Jones Funeral Home for providing a respectful and dignified end of life arrangement for our dear, sweet Michael. Let his life serve as a reminder that you never know when you are entertaining angels and as you do for one of God’s children so do you do for Christ himself.

Condolences

  1. So sorry to hear of the loss of this percious man . It is so nice to hear that there are caring people in this world . What a wonderful story.

  2. Michael was such a blessing to my daughter and I and many many more as he passed through our little east Texas towns of Daingerfield, Omaha and Naples. I stopped so many times to visit with him on the side of the road, just to share our adventures of the day. I had no idea that he had passed until tonight. His passing has left so many broken hearts, but we are definately blessed to have known such a fine man of God and will always be thankful for the impact that he had on our lives. Thank you Michael for being obedient and spreading His word and changing lives. Forever in our hearts.

  3. Mr. Stuckley– you were a man about a Mission, serving God and showing others there is a way to do as God wants you to do! Give up Self! You walked many miles across the lands and now you walk the Golden streets! Yet your steps will never go forgotten here! Jesus Is Lord!!!

  4. We never will forget our walk and talk with Micheal. Two weeks that changed us. He showed us the way to walk in the light. This very morning I wake with you on my heart to find that you are two years gone. We miss and love you. Friend and brother. Walk in the light.

  5. In April 2012 I was driving near Brookeland TX. It was on one of my tours through my favorite part of the US. I saw a man walking along the highway, on the side of his Iittle cart it read ‘Jesus is Lord’. I immediately felt I wanted to meet this guy. I then had a very inspiring encounter with Michael. We talked for a long time and he stayed on my mind ever since. In 2016 I published a book about my travels through the southern states. I wrote about my encounter with Michael, not knowing that he was no longer with us.
So sorry to hear about his death. He was special.
