Monica was born to Amaro and Heloisa Garcias, in Campos, Rio De Janeiro. Monica was a self-motivating lady; she attained two Masters Degrees from the Faculdade de Filososfia E Letras – Campos in Brazil. Before Junior’s birth she worked as a college-level Spanish professor. She enjoyed her family first and foremost before all else. Monica met her husband, a petroleum engineer, through mutual friends while he was working in Brazil. Monica’s life was filled with joy marrying George in March of 1992, in Las Vegas, NV. She would become a mother of two with Sean, from George’s previous marriage, and Junior. Her home was one of great culture, sharing food from her Brazilian recipes. She enjoyed hosting holiday parties and gatherings for her family and friends. Monica wished for her family to know the world not only in books but by traveling to different locations. She loved the ocean; her South Texas Beaches and Puerto Vallarta were home away from home for her. A lady of great travels, yet she upheld her values as a Catholic lady. Monica and her family are members of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bryan, TX.

Her parents, Amaro and Heloisa Garcias; her sister Maria de Fátima Carneiro Garcias; her son Sean Edward Lyerly ’98; all preceded Monica in death.

Her legacy continues on through her husband of 27 years, George Edward Lyerly Sr. ’67; her son Junior ’12 and wife Leanne Lyerly ’12; her daughter-in-law, Csilla Lyerly; her grandson, Zackary; her brothers Amaro Carneiro Garcias and wife Valeria Vieiera, and Guilherme and wife Flavia Garcias; her niece and god-daughter, Ana Heloisa Garcias; among other relatives.
