Albert Lee Closs, a man whose life embodied the essence of artistic versatility and cultural appreciation, passed away on May 8, 2026, in College Station, Texas. Born on February 18, 1945, in Houston, Texas, Albert’s journey was one marked by a profound dedication to the arts and an enduring love for the diverse landscapes and cultures that shaped him.

A quintessential renaissance man, Albert wore many hats throughout his life, excelling as a musician, conductor, designer, actor, painter, and baker. His broad talents were a testament to his ceaseless curiosity and passion for life's many facets. Albert earned his Masters of Music from the University of Houston in 1978, a milestone that underscored his commitment to musical excellence. Among his proudest accomplishments was his unforgettable performance of Beethoven's Third Symphony, a performance remembered for its vitality and precision. His remarkable ability to sight-read full orchestral scores across multiple clefs and transpositions was a skill that left a lasting impression on all who witnessed it.

Albert’s deep affection for Texas was a defining aspect of his identity. He cherished the land where he spent most of his life—the Gulf Coast, the Hill Country, and the Central Plains—holding his long Texas heritage close to his heart. Equally, he nurtured a profound admiration for France and all things French: its food, wine, history, architecture, gardens, and language. This love enriched his life and broadened his appreciation for beauty and fine culture, which he sought to surround himself with at every opportunity.

Those who knew Albert will remember his infectious, full-throated laugh and his endearing smile, expressions of a warm and genuine spirit that could brighten any room. His personality left an indelible mark on friends and family alike, creating memories filled with joy and affection.

Albert is survived by Artur Fast, his close friend of 51 years, who stood by his side through the countless shared moments that defined their enduring friendship.
