Andrew Scott Ballard was born in Dallas, Texas on April 12, 1958. His early life was in Coppell, Texas, just north of Dallas. His later life was unique and adventurous, and he traveled worldwide. After graduating from High School, Andy enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps where he earned “The Bird and The Ball” emblem and was further trained as a diesel mechanic. Andy was stationed at Camp Lejune, North Carolina, and went on to serve in the Mediterranean and north Africa as part of a Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) aboard the USS Charleston. Following his honorable discharge, Andy worked as a mechanic in many locations, including Alaska and other overseas assignments. Many of these contracts were in very challenging environments.
Ultimately Andy’s sharp business sense allowed him to build a large, successful maintenance business in Freeport, Texas. He was an avid sailor and fisherman in the Gulf of Mexico. Andy eventually sold the business and retired to a farm near Normangee, Texas.
Andy enjoyed off road competitions in his modified Jeep. He restored numerous Harley-Davidson motorcycles and rode them all over. He enjoyed shooting and was a skilled marksman. But he mostly enjoyed his wife and family.
Andy is survived by his wife Lan, 2 children, 2 stepsons, 6 grandchildren, a large group of siblings, nieces and nephews as well as extended family of his loving wife.
Andy was an unusual character, and we will all miss him mightily. He was called away from us too soon, and too sudden. Semper Fi Andy
