Anne Linne

October 22, 1931 — September 3, 2025

Bryan, Texas

Anne Linne, a beacon of love and learning, passed away peacefully in her sleep on September 3, 2025, in Bryan, Texas, at the age of 93. Born in Detroit, Michigan, on October 22, 1931, Anne's journey through life was one replete with joy, resilience, and a steadfast dedication to family and education.

In 1953, Anne earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Speech and Education from Texas Tech University, where she blossomed into a spirited individual playing the French horn in the marching band, engaging in the arts by producing plays, and honing her voice at the university's radio station. It was there that she crossed paths with Alton Calvin Linne Jr., her future husband. Their bond grew strong, leading to their marriage on April 15, 1954, a partnership that was marked by mutual support and unwavering love until his passing.

Anne's life unfurled as a nurturing tapestry of motherhood and teaching. In the early 1960s, she took the adventurous step of relocating with her family to East Pakistan for Alton's work with Texas A & M. It was during these formative years that she initiated her teaching career, first by homeschooling her children and then transitioning to formal education at the Bryan Independent School District. Over 22 years, she dedicated herself to teaching English, Creative Writing, and Speech, leaving an indelible mark on countless students who fondly remember her as their 'favorite teacher.' Her legacy as an educator was further cemented when she was honored as the Outstanding Teacher of the Year in 1984 and the BCS Chamber Teacher of the Year in 1985.

To her sons, Alton Calvin Linne III and Elizabeth, Jes Worth Linne and Mary, and Patrick Trainor Linne and Kristin, Anne was more than a mother; she was a guiding light of compassion and discipline, instilling wisdom that would ripple through generations. Alongside her cherished 7 grandchildren—Andrew, Kristen, Nicholas, Patrick, Melissa Ruth, Paige, and Trainor—and her 4 great-grandchildren—Braxton, Sydney, Riley, and Molly—she fostered a spirit of togetherness through family trips, games, and shared adventures, never missing a single extracurricular event.

Anne’s passion extended beyond the classroom and into her interests at home. A lover of writing and journaling, she later embraced quilting and rug hooking post-retirement, earning endearing recognition as a dedicated "hooker." Her culinary explorations enriched her family’s cultural experiences, and aptly complemented her travels abroad. In her later years at Crestview Arbor Oaks, she began leading writing groups, an extension of her life’s work as a teacher and a testament to her enduring spirit; she took pride in winning cornhole matches, never losing her playful edge.

Survived by her three devoted sons and their wives, her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and sister-in-law Jocelyn Gray, Anne's presence will be deeply missed, though her impact remains a vibrant part of their lives. She touched many young lives, guiding a generation of students and teachers alike, and served as a breast cancer survivor and compassionate hospice volunteer, selflessly giving back to her community.

Though Anne joins her loving husband, Alton, along with her parents, Worth and Louise Gray, brothers Lew Gray (Ganell) and Patrick Gray, her spirit will continue to resonate within the hearts of all who knew her.
