Betty Sue Carter, a beloved matriarch and vibrant community member, passed away peacefully on January 30, 2026, in College Station, Texas, at the age of 96. Born on May 9, 1929, in Elmore City, Oklahoma, Betty's journey through life was marked by her fierce independence, captivating personality, and deep commitment to service.
A proud graduate who earned her teaching certificate in Oklahoma, Betty began her professional journey in the humble setting of a one-room schoolhouse. Education was not just a career for Betty; it was a passion that defined her early years and shaped countless young minds. Later, she retired as the Chief Bookkeeper from the Texas A&M University Forestry Department, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and meticulous service.
Betty was not only a devoted professional but also a vibrant and engaging individual. Known for her fun-loving spirit and infectious laughter, she had a flair for telling a good joke, bringing smiles to those around her. Her hobbies included an unwavering love for reading, which she maintained throughout her life. In her later years, she discovered the joy of bowling, showcasing her competitive spirit by participating in leagues four days a week at the impressive age of 92.
Throughout her life, Betty embraced her role in the community and led by example. She dedicated herself to the upbringing of her children, serving as a Sunday School teacher, Girl Scout Leader, and active participant in local women's service clubs. After the passing of her husband, Clarence Ralph Carter Ph.D., she found solace and new friendships within the Eastern Star organization, where she garnered respect and admiration through her service. Betty held numerous esteemed appointments, including serving as Grand Representative to Australia and as Traveling Secretary to the Worthy Grand Matron on three occasions.
Betty's family, which includes her children, Clarence Irving Carter and Sandra Sue Carter White, were the pride and joy of her life, alongside her siblings, Robert E. Parker and Helen Parker White. She was predeceased by her husband, Clarence Ralph Carter Ph.D., and her siblings, James Avery Parker and Bill Parker, who will surely welcome her with open arms in the afterlife.
Betty’s departure leaves an indelible void in the hearts of her family and friends, but her spirit will forever resonate in the laughter shared, the help given, and the love spread throughout her community.
Services to honor Betty Sue Carter will be held at Callaway-Jones Funeral Home And Crematory in Bryan, Texas. Visitation will take place on February 6, 2026, starting at 10:00 AM, followed by a funeral service at 12:00 PM. She will be laid to rest at Restever Memorial Park Cemetery at 1:00 PM that same day.
Her legacy of kindness, humor, and community service will continue to inspire all those who were fortunate enough to know her. Betty, you will be deeply missed, but your influence and spirit will live on in the hearts of many.
