Betty Ruth Steckman, born on May 30, 1950, in Galena Park, Texas, passed away peacefully on December 29, 2025, in Bryan, Texas. She lived a life dedicated to her family, friends, and community, leaving an enduring legacy of love and kindness.

Betty worked diligently as an administrative assistant for Texas A&M University, where she was known for her exceptional work ethic and her caring demeanor. Throughout her career, she made lasting connections with colleagues who admired her dedication and warmth.

In her personal life, Betty was much more than a beloved wife; she was the best friend of her husband, Jim Steckman, with whom she shared 35 wonderful years of marriage. Their bond was characterized by unwavering support and affection, particularly during some of the most challenging moments of their lives. Betty’s spirit and strength offered hope and comfort, demonstrating her profound love for Jim.

Betty was a devoted mother and grandmother. She is survived by her daughter Lisa Morace and husband Travis of Normangee, and her son Don Wayne Lewis Jr. and wife Ashley of College Station, as well as her son Jon Eric Steckman of Bridgeport. Her family was her pride and joy, and she is fondly remembered by her six grandchildren: Chad Morace and girlfriend Emily Jackson, Kayla Tinnell and husband Caleb, Shaley Lewis, Caleb Lewis, Talan Lewis, and Daisy Lewis. She was also a treasured great-grandmother to Everlee Tinnell.

In addition to her immediate family, Betty is survived by two sisters, Shirley Huebner and husband Barry of Victoria, and Peggy Holloman and husband Rick of Bedias. Betty treasured her relationship with her sister-in-law Cheryl Kreger, along with numerous nieces and nephews who will carry her memory forward.

Betty is preceded in death by her parents, Randolph “Randy” and Louise Utecht, whose loving influence shaped the compassionate person she became.

Family and friends will gather to celebrate her life at a Funeral Service to be held on January 9, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Reliance Baptist Church in Bryan, Texas. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her, and her spirit will continue to inspire those she cherished throughout her life.
