Beverly Bob Cleveland Whitman, 85, passed away on April 1, 2026 in Spring, TX. She was born in San Angelo, TX on April 19, 1940, the daughter of Robert A. Cleveland and Pattie Crook Cleveland. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years Wesley H. Whitman, Jr., two sisters, Louise Cleveland Stone and Merlene Cleveland Smith, nephew Michael Craig Stone, and niece Rebecca Smith Stephens.
Beverly’s family moved to Fort Stockton, TX where she spent her childhood. She excelled in school and developed a passion for music, learning piano and voice, playing organ at church, singing solos and in a girl’s ensemble. She was the head baton twirler and drum major for the High School band, and graduated as Salutatorian of her class.
It was here as a young teenager in a church youth group that she met the love of her life. Beverly and Wes married December 27, 1958 in Fort Stockton, while both were students at Baylor University, where she earned her teacher’s degree and a minor in music.
Together they lived in Riverside, CA and San Diego for 33 years where she worked as a 4th-grade school teacher, church secretary, and Christian high school secretary. As an active church member she sang in the choir, directed the handbells group, planned and decorated banquets, and choreographed staging for choir musicals.
She was committed to Bible study and history. A highlight for Beverly and Wes was a group trip to Israel with a Christian Israeli guide who connected Jewish and Christian aspects at each site.
They moved to Brenham 31 years ago to be near their children’s families, and in recent years lived in College Station and Spring.
She was a member at Magnolia Ave Baptist (Riverside), 1st Southern Baptist (San Diego), and 1st Baptist (Brenham) churches.
Beverly had life-long interests in many types of crafts, needlework, collectibles and decorating, and was an avid reader with an extensive library. She valued family and memories, traditions, celebrating birthdays, anniversaries, and Christmas.
She will be missed but we know she received the assurance of her faith in Jesus and is with her Savior in heaven.
Beverly is survived by her children, Mark (Carrie) of Grapevine, TX, Roger (Beth) of Greensboro, NC, and Serena Whitman of Spring, TX. Also ten grandchildren: Emily of Grapevine, Matthew (Hannah) of Mansfield, TX, and Andrew (Eva) of Celina, TX; Charlie (Brooke) of North Wilkesboro, NC, Jessica Jones (Neil) of Randleman, NC, Justin, of Asheboro, NC, and Erin Cardwell (Shawn) of Abingdon, MD; Amanda Hajdik of Brenham, TX, Kayla Hajdik of Spring, and Daniel Hajdik of Tomball, TX; three great-grandchildren, and four nieces, Donna Sammon, Mandy Shooter (Jack), Staci Myers, and Stephanie Whitson.
