Jill Walker McMurray, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on October 29, 2025, surrounded by her family and listening to her favorite songs. In her 65 years, she touched countless lives through her kindness, compassion, and unwavering dedication to others.

Born to Jerrell Walker and Jane Bryan, Jill grew up in Wingate, Texas, where she graduated from Winters High School in 1979. She was a highly involved classmate and a friend to all, remembered for her vibrant spirit and contagious laughter.

Throughout her life, Jill devoted herself to serving others. She worked as a school registrar, nurse, and alternative school administrator, supporting hundreds of children and earning the affectionate title of "Ms. Jill" from her students. Her care extended far beyond her job—she had a special gift for reaching underprivileged students, believing deeply in the good within everyone. Her colleagues and students alike often said she was “the kindest person they ever met,” always leading with empathy and a beautiful heart.

Jill married the love of her life, Mark McMurray, in 1981 and together they built a life centered on family, faith, and giving. She was the proud mother of Zachary McMurray (Michelle) and Jennifer McMurray-Esquivel (Eric), and the adoring “Grammie” to Hank McMurray, Rome Esquivel, and Kailani Warren—all of whom were her greatest joy.

She is also survived by her brother Bill Walker (Lue), and sisters- and brothers-in-law Tim and Pam McMurray, Janet McMurray, and Patricia and Youseff Fakhreddine, along with many nieces, nephews, and their families who loved her dearly.

Jill was preceded in death by her father Jerrell Walker, stepmother Shirley Walker, mother Jane Bryan, brother Jode Walker, father-in-law Pat McMurray, mother-in-law Maxine McMurray, brothers-in-law Chris McMurray and David McMurray, and niece Nora Fakhreddine.

A selfless and humble soul, Jill always put others before herself. After Hurricane Katrina, she quietly helped countless families find housing, food, and stability—never asking for recognition or thanks. She spent many years volunteering at community outreach programs, coaching youth sports, and supporting those in need in any way she could.

Her family fondly remembers long road trips with family singalongs, Jill coaching her kids’ little league basketball teams, overflowing Christmas stockings, and her infectious laugh that could light up a room. She loved watching sports–especially March Madness and the Olympics–swimming, reading, and most of all, spending time with her family.

Jill’s legacy is one of love, generosity, and faith in the goodness of others. She leaves behind a lasting example of how to live with purpose and heart.

We will have two come and go celebration of life gatherings to share stories, laughter, and love in Jill’s spirit, open to all family and friends. The first will be held at the home she shared with Mark in College Station on November 15, 2025 from 2-6 PM and the second will be held at the Winters Activity Center (601 Wood St. Winters, TX 79567) on December 6, 2025 from 1-5 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Shriners Children’s Hospital in her memory.
