Edgardene Jenkins Sheffield, 93, passed away on May 3, 2025, in College Station, Texas. She was born on October 18, 1931, in Bryan, Texas, and was married to Frank L. Sheffield for 57 years. Edgardene was a beautiful and loving wife, mother, sister, and “Maam.” She was a wonderful cook and had an incredible green thumb.
She was a resident of Lufkin, Texas for over 60 years, where she and Frank raised their family. She served her community in many ways, including Assistant Director of the Weekday Church School at First United Methodist Church for many years. She was a devoted member of First United Methodist Church, Lufkin, Texas, where she and her husband sang in the church choir for many years and later a member of Christ Congregational Church, Lufkin, Texas.
Edgardene loved her family and friends deeply, but she had a special place in her heart for Texas A&M University. She spent many decades attending Aggie sporting events with her family. Earlier this year, she moved back to Bryan, Texas, to be closer to loved ones—and her beloved Aggies.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank L. Sheffield; her daughter, Dena Ann Sheffield Higham; parents, Harry S. Jenkins and Ruby Clary Jenkins; and her twin sister, Charlene Jenkins Nutt, and husband, Maj. Gen. Waymond Nutt, Ret.. She is survived by her son, Bryan Lee Sheffield and wife, Janet, of Tyler, Texas; her daughter, Charlee Sheffield Garbs and husband, Rodger, of College Station, Texas; and her grandchildren: William Day Sheffield of Austin, Texas; Kyle Bryant Garbs and wife, Emily, of Dallas, Texas; Anna Grace Garbs Nichols and husband, Cpt. Duncan Nichols, of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and Reed Sullivan Garbs and Ross Olsen Garbs, both of College Station, Texas. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews and by her beloved dog, Coco.
A graveside service will be held on May 7, 2025, at Cross Cemetery in Iola, Texas, at 11 o’clock in the morning. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Frank L. Sheffield ‘51/Dena Ann Sheffield Higham ‘75 Scholarship Fund, Texas A&M University, Association of Former Students, 505 George Bush Drive, College Station, TX 77840.
